Got phone call from my nurse today while I was out walking with my husband. Results of my MRI scan I had two weeks ago confirmed endometrial cancer at stage 1A. She asked if I could go to hospital today to sign concent form as I could have my operation on Friday. Is it normal to feel so happy?
So we called our walk to a halt, attended the hospital, saw gynecologist, attended pre assessment and I'm having total laparoscopic hysterectomy on Friday. Watch this space.
Hi Newbie8, really pleased for you to have this predicted grade and stage (bear in mind it’s not 100% confirmed till the post op histology) and also to have your op date so soon! Definitely normal to feel happier and more positive when you have the op date and the prospect of the cancer being removed. I wrote a hysterectomy diary from day 1 onwards which you may find of interest (I had my laparoscopic hysterectomy in January last year) - the link is here: community.macmillan.org.uk/.../hysterectomy-day-and-after---diary
Here also is a link for a thread about what to pack: community.macmillan.org.uk/.../what-to-take-in-my-overnight-bag
Thank you MarmiteFan59 I read the links to what to pack and your hysterectomy diary. Not looking forward to wearing the sexy stockings again or the dry throat but hey ho.
I was admitted on December 28th last year for removal of ovaries (I have a 6cm cyst on my left ovary) and histoscopy.
I woke up to be told they hadn't removed my ovaries as planned. They had removed 3 polyps from my womb and taken a biopsy of suspicious looking cells.
Depending on the results, which they said would take about 2 weeks they would get me back for the original operation or hysterectomy.
So after an MRI scan 2 weeks ago I have my operation date.
Hi Newbie8 , first of all in a way yes it’s totally normal to feel happy for the upcoming surgery. As strange as it sounds i think we breathe a huge relief to know that treatment is starting even those until the post histology report we dont know if more treatment is needed to know that everything is being done to get us though this. I was scared about the surgery definitely and being young losing my chances of bearing children suddenly effected me but just having the hope that something is being done to help was just a huge relief and yes i was happy about it too. Being diagnosed with cancer is a huge emotional turmoil but it’s important to look at it as one step at a time, take it day by day. I wish you every luck for Friday and i hope the surgery goes well.
Sending gentle bear hugs

Hello
Really thinking of you for Friday - you’ll be so relieved when it’s all done. I was stage 1A two years ago and life is good again now! You’ll get there!
Much love
Pippa xx
Just had phone call from gynecologist, my operation has been cancelled for Friday. They had MDT meeting today and have decided to refer me to another hospital. Apparently the cancer occupies more than 50% of my womb so I may require more extensive surgery. I'm obviously disappointed that the surgery is not taking place as planned, but they say I should hear from the other hospital soon.
Hallo again Newbie8, that’s disappointing for you. Did they say it occupies more than 50% of your uterus or that it’s grown 50% or more into the muscle wall?
Sorry to hear the operation has been cancelled but i do hope the new hospital can get you in as soon as possible. I know this must be very disappointing and worrying when you were all set to have it done Friday.
gentle bear hugs

MarmiteFan59 The phone call was rather rushed, the gynecologist spoke quickly, and I don't know if I was taking all the information in. She did say that the cancer was contained within the womb, that the surgery would probably still be laprascopic, but removal of lymph nodes would be required during surgery too. I guess I'll ask more questions when I see the new team.
