Well I am back from hospital following my laparoscopic exploratory procedure. I stayed in overnight Thursday and monitored then discharged in afternoon. As I mentioned this procedure was to investigate whether there was any spread to my bowels.
The very good news is that my bowels are okay. I did have a clear bowel screening just a couple of months ago but he wanted to check as it would involve a different treatment path.
So my consultant will be proceeding with a full hysterectomy. I don’t have a date yet but am seeing him on the 17th. Meanwhile I have been asked to shield until then. Covid precaution I assume. The nurses were very diligent about masks and while didn’t wear on the ward I wore them whenever outside it.
I feel fine. Had a good night’s sleep and while I have some vaginal bleeding it has tapered off. Makes me wonder if aside from bowel investigation there was a look inside uterus too so he could see first hand what was going on. My little wounds on belly and side are fine. I have been advised to rest for next few days which isn’t a problem.
so, that’s where I stand. Must say coming out of general anaesthetic was bizarre. Quite disoriented about where I was. They gave me morphine which calmed me down.
Well done Muse, and I’m glad you’re safely home again. I was fine after the general anaesthetic from my hysteroscopy but with the GA from my hysterectomy I was really all over the place afterwards and took quite a while to feel ok. Hoping the time goes quickly between now and the 17th.
It might be that being under longer and deeper did it.
Feeling better bleeding pretty much stopped.
my only residual issue is I haven’t (as the nurses say) ‘opened my bowels’ since the surgery. I was given a stool softener to take and understand that it’s quite common after GA.
Drinking plenty of water and upping fibre in my diet.
After my hysterectomy I had a poo on the evening of the 3rd day. I kept my diet light (but fruity) after my op and just let things happen naturally. Hope it happens for you soon!
It’s good to hear you are home and recovering well. I noticed that you’ve been asked to shield. I had my pre op assessment for my hysterectomy and I asked about covid precautions and I was advised just to stay away from anyone who shows symptoms of covid or similar symptoms as not everyone generally tests themselves now. I’m wondering now whether to check that I understood correctly. I’m seeing the gynae/oncology team on Wednesday for a general chat and getting to know you session so I’ll ask them.
Best wishes and stay well
Hurrah it did! I will be prepared when I go in for the hysterectomy ensure that I have plenty of fruit. etc.
It likely was because when I caught Covid in October it effected my breathing so that I had to undertake extra tests before it was deemed safe for me to have general anaesthetic. I need to be extra careful of any respiratory infection as it could delay my future surgery.
I am sure I had it written down somewhere…
