My op is due Wednesday, but anaesthetist wants me to have echocardiogram tomorrow, as the ECG shows I have left ventricular hypertrophy probably caused by undiagnosed high blood pressure.

  • BP must now be super high, as worried they may decide to cancel op when I have had echo - I can walk over a mile, get bit breathless, but not to point of having to stop, so am currently crossing everything as I have waited what seems like forever for the op
  • Hi and a warm welcome to our spot in the Online Community. I myself had an echocardiogram as part of my pre-op assessment.

In your case it's good that they've found the undiagnosed high blood pressure and it's better to get your blood pressure under control now even if it means postponing the op for a short while. I can understand though how you must feel and it'll also make you super anxious but it's better to be safe than sorry.

  • Hi Mumsy53

I really feel for you. being so close to your operation only to have this news. As MrsBJH said though. better safe than sorry.

I also have high BP but its been under control for 2 years now since taking one tablet a day, so please dont worry if thats what the doctors recommend for you too.

I know its easier said than done but try not to get anxious as you don't want to push your BP up even more. I'm sure that the hospital will go ahead with your operation if they can be sure its safe for you to do so.

All the very best for tomorrow,  please keep us posted. Big hugs Robin xxx
