I was discharged yesterday after my total abdominal hysterectomy on 6 October. Might have been a day earlier but my bowels weren't functioning quite as they should have been! Surgeon said it went well without any complications. Had some nausea and sickness immediately after the op, very little bleeding and I would say I'm more in discomfort rather than full on pain. Taking time to adjust to the best sitting and sleeping positions. Started walking round the ward the day after the op. There was a lovely group of supportive ladies in my bay who were all in a similar situation. Massive thanks to the nursing, care and support staff at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield who were all excellent. Follow up appointment on 17 October.
Hi SH53 Great to hear that you're home and suffered discomfort rather than pain. I think most people's bowels are affected after this op and take a little while to get back to normal. Nice to hear you had supportive ladies around you.
Concentrate on healing, no bending or lifting anything heavier than a cuppa!
Come back and let us know how your follow up goes on 17th October.
Gentle hugs, Barb xx
