Hi everyone, well, I had my 2nd session today at 10.30, not worried at all as I knew what to expect, however I felt a right numpty, everyone in our house has had or got colds, I woke up with a tickly cough, nothing major, absolutely fine getting prepared for treatment, as soon as the nurses left the room and the machine started I started feeling the tickle in my throat, cleared my throat as best as I could, but oh nooo, I started to cough and cough, well, as you know, having the applicator inserted and secured onto the metal thing is not the best time to cough, I started to panic waving my arms around like a mad woman, machine was turned off, nurses come leggin it into the room as I'm starting to wretch, they quickly removed everything so I bolted upright as I thought I was gonna be sick, I was so embarrassed, apologising constantly, the young male nurse got me some water, whilst I was recovering another nurse came in with a package, she said whilst youre recovering it's a good time to discuss dialators, she promptly pulled it out of the box and processed to tell me all about them, I'd recovered enough to carry on with the treatment, no more coughing thank god, afterwards I was apologising again and as I picked up my little brown package I said "well this thing now has a name, it's called Cillian Murphy" they laughed and referenced Peaky Blinders, saying nobody's ever gave their dialators a name before, it made me chuckle cos when I'm embarrassed I make little jokes to cover up my embarrassment, think I got out of there pretty quickly, on Thurs, my final session I'll be prepared with a throat lozenges just in case lol xxx
Hi Proudnanny, oh no! Bless you! Love your sense of humour! Well done for doing 2 out of 3, you’re over half way through now!
Marmitefan59,
Last session on Thursday, hopefully gonna ring that bell, hopefully I won't be coughing again, I was mortified, but the nurses were brilliant, telling me it's ok and not to worry, I do find humour in most situations, I have to just pick the right situation, once home I had my lunch then took myself off for a lie down, throats burning now so hoping I'm not full of a cold on Thursday cos wearing a mask is hard enough without having a cold too xxx
Hi Proudnanny. Can't stop grinning at the thought that you had your presentation of the dilators and discussion during such an inappropriate moment. There you are coughing and choking tethered to a bed and you get a Cillian Murphy in reward! This couldn't be made up!
By now you should have finished so I hope the lozenges worked for you on your final session!
After I had my last Brachytherapy when I got back to the car I broke down in floods of tears. It must've been the cumulative effect of going through everything pretty much alone as you had to go everywhere alone due to Covid restrictions. I calmed myself down, switched on the ngine and sat there for a couple more minutes collecting myself. Then I thought "Oh my god, I've wet myself" Happily it was the heated seats going on as the temperature had dropped below 10 degrees!
Biggest hugs, Barb xx

Hi Barb,
Thankfully I was prepared but didn't need to pop a cough sweet in my mouth beforehand, I've just put a post on now, I've got the cold that my family's had so felt a bit rough, I thought I'd be a bit embarrassed that it was a young man preparing me, but he was absolutely brilliant, a great sense of humour which helped, I had to do everything on my own, I had my Total Hysterectomy, hubby could only drop me off then pick me up a couple of day's later, then he was working away for the first 2 wks, couldn't cancel it, I've been going to Clatterbridge in Liverpool by myself too, it's such a relief to hopefully never have to go through it again, after I rang the bell, I said to everyone watching "thank you all for taking good care of me, but I hope I never see any of you again " they laughed and wished me well, I went straight to bed when I got home, that's where I cried, still feel like crying at times but I know I'll be ok, I just need my head to catch up with everything my bodies been through xxx
