Today is exactly one year since I saw blood! I was absolutely trepidated and with good reason. Despite contacting the GP on the following Monday is was to be exactly 5 months to the day on the 27th January 2022 before I had a hysterectomy. I am still having treatment. On tuesday, 30th August it will be my 4th and final brachytherapy. It took 5 different hospital pathology labs to get a final diagnosis of Serous Uterine cancer Stage 1B G3. I have also had 4 carboplatin which apart from mild acid reflux did not have any other side effects. No hair loss. I have had many highs and lows as we all have had involving many hospitals as well. Initially, I was told if you are going to get cancer this is a good one to get! Unbelievable. And that was from a consultant. Needless to say I had no faith in her and asked to be transferred. This delayed things further by at least a month as well. I wonder does my journey/experiences mirror that of others?
So happy for you that the end of treatment is in sight! It’s almost a year too for me since I noticed some faint pink spotting. GP mid September, diagnosed end November, hysterectomy January, radio Apr-May plus 2 brachy, all at the same hospital (Southampton). Really glad I’m on this side now looking back. All the best for your continuing wellness.
Hi Daisy1952. My episode started 2 years ago with just some pink mucous like spotting. I was also stage 1b/grade 3 but was only offered 3 x brachy sessions. In hindsight I'd have asked for more treatment like chemo as mine came back less than a year later. I lost my hair as my chemo involved Carboplatin and Paclitaxel, the latter was the cause of hair loss and peripheral neuropathy. I also had the acid reflux which, thankfully has been gone for ages.
I can't really fault the treatment I've received from the NHS. The hysteroscopy in one hospital, the op in another, check-ups in another and chemo/CT scans in yet another. I've driven a few miles in Lincolnshire, mostly on my own due to Covid but I have to say my CNS's and my Oncologist are lovely. I just wished after my second 3 monthly check-up I'd been referred back to Oncology for a check-up scan, then my situation wouldn't have ended up so severe.
Mind you, the way the world's going I often think I don't want to live to be in my 90's.
Wishing you all the best for the future.
Big hugs, Barb xx
