Saw the Gynaecology Oncologist today who told me that my recent MRI and CT scans were clear. I was, understandably, relieved so much so that I burst into tears! I'd been previously diagnosed with endometrial cancer on 20 July after the transvaginal scan and biopsies had been taken. The original consultant suggested that keyhole surgery might be the way forward. However, after a further internal examination today I was advised that the area was quite 'bulky' so keyhole surgery probably wouldn't be possible. I suppose with a thickened lining and 3 fibroids that's to be expected! I was given a preliminary staging of 1a but I realise that this may change post op. The earliest available slot for the operation was 6 October, which was slightly disappointing, but I was advised there's a good chance that an earlier slot will become available. I met my support nurse who provided me with a carrier bag of pre and post op drinks and lots of info and who patiently listened to all my queries and concerns. I know there's still quite a way to go on this challenging journey, and that there are no certainties, but at least I now have a clearer picture of what's happening. I found the waiting time very stressful but am grateful to those on this forum who have provided support and helpful advice.

  • Hi SH53, great news that the scans were clear. If it was me I’d definitely regard the 6th October as a latest date, rather than the definitive one, and be prepared for being called in sooner!

  • Good Morning, I thought i would  say hi as like you I am newly diagnosed with Type 1 1a. At every stage I have been told we will call in a few weeks and it’s always been much quicker! My op is 22nd August so it must be some areas have a longer wait than others. I absolutely agree the waiting is awful, its the worse bit of it so far.  This forum is fantastic for asking daft questions without judgement and getting shut down, I too am so grateful to all. I wanted to send my very beat wishes to you and a virtual hug, we can do this ! xxxx

  • I hope so, thanks for all your supportive advice

  • Thanks for your supportive comments. I think the oncologist simply wanted to get me on the computer system and she seemed pretty confident an earlier date would come up. I'm in Sheffield and all my previous appointments have been speedy so hoping I won't be waiting too long. Good luck with your op!

  • Hi SH53

Waving at you from just over the border in Rotherham. I had my surgery on Thursday and came home last night. My sister had a radical hysterectomy and BSO for cervical cancer at jessops/hallamshire 3 years ago and they were amazing.

    Take care

  • Hi Mavis, well done and glad you’re home!

  • Hi Mavis, hope your recovery goes well. My op will be at the Hallamshire. I've been impressed with the 2 consultants I've seen and the speed with which the scans have been arranged. Just hope I get the op date soon. x

  • Hi

I had surgery at the Hallamshire and the nursing staff on the gynae ward were lovely. All the consultants etc I’ve dealt with there were excellent.

Hope you’re not waiting too long for your op date.

  • Thanks for your reply. I have just read your bio and what a journey you have had. I am full of awe at the women on this forum who have had to face such adversity, with positivity,  and have come out of it at the end. It really is inspiring. x

  • You’re very kind but we do what we have to do. The surgeons in Sheffield saved my life, no doubt about that, and I’ll be eternally grateful to the NHS and its amazing staff. You’ll be in very good hands.
