The second MDT had a look at the bulging Lymph node and have ruled it not an issue. So have a pre surgery diagnosis of 1a, excellent news, of course I am aware that can change post surgery. Within two weeks I will have my first meeting with an oncologist, and from there 2 weeks to wait for surgery. CNS said up to 4 weeks for the Hysterectomy , hopefully keyhole, but it could be less. The CNS said it was likely keyhole surgery. All in all a good result to date. Now all I need to do is keep busy! Thanks to all for the support to the point xx

  • Hi Lancslass, that’s great news. It’s likely that it will be your consultant/surgeon that you will meet in two weeks, rather than an oncologist, as we usually don’t see an oncologist till after the post-op histology results if we happen to need any further treatment, and their role is to discuss the plan with us. How are you feeling about the op? Mine was keyhole (laparoscopic) so if you have any questions please do feel free to ask.

  • Thanks, the consultant (?) is calling me in an hour to discuss everything I assume. Frantically scribbling questions, not sure what to ask but the list is growing! With Laparoscopic what was your experience? Don’t worry if too broad a question and you don’t fancy a full account! Thank you so much for everything xxxx

  • Hi Lancslass, my consultant said he’d endeavour to do it laparoscopically, and was fairly confident it could be done that way, but with the proviso that a final decision can’t be made till the day. He said as I’d had one vaginal delivery, and as my uterus was quite small (I had no idea lol) it should all come out of my vagina okay. And it did! I had three small incisions in my tummy - some women have 4. As I look down at my tummy, I had one in my belly button, one slightly to the right midway between my belly button and the top of my thigh, and one slightly to the left about a third of the way down. They were about an inch long, When I came round from the anaesthetic I had no dressings on my wounds, they were dry already, and just a sanitary pad underneath me with a little fingernail size spot of blood on it. I actually didn’t bleed any further and didn’t need any of the pads I’d bought specially! You could ask him/her how confident he/she is that it can be done laparoscopically. Also whether it’s next day home, all being well, or same day home, or longer. If it’s robotic laparoscopic it is often one extra incision and an extra day in. You could also ask if your catheter will still be in when you come round and if so for how long you have to have it. I asked mine too if I’d have to do heparin injections at home afterwards.

  • Thanks you, that's very reassuring. Although I have not had children so I suppose that could make a difference then from the sound of it? 32 mins to go! Grimacing

  • It may do, it may not. I’d also suggest asking whether he/she will come to see you the evening of the op to make sure you’re ok. I found it a comfort to know that mine would.

  • Consultant called and was very reassuring. Caught very early, possibly less than a year but of course we will never know. He will attempt a vaginal hysterectomy but reserved the right to change if necessary, he explained thats the same for everyone of course. Due to the nature of my job he suggested i should expect to be off 4-6 weeks.

He gave me a date of the 22nd August! He said i would stay overnight, possibly two. His secretary phoned a few hours later to confirm 22nd so it’s confirmed.

Now will see the helpful tread about what to take with me and recovery tips. Thank you all xx

  • Lancslass, the next thing that’s likely to happen is that you get an appointment for a pre-assessment for the op. That’s done by a general nursing team, not the cancer team, so it’s not really an opportunity to ask any questions. It’s to log weight, height, BP, take a blood test, do an ECG, check any meds allergies or sensitivities etc and maybe to give you drinks to drink pre op, and to give you an information leaflet. Mine took just under two hours all in all.

  • Thank you for that, i haven’t received any info, and not  had any face to face meeting , absolutely everything has been via the phone. Post op check up via facetime could be interesting Rofl
