I've noticed that quite a few people on the forum have received their scan results via a telephone call. I was diagnosed on 20 July a week after biopsies were taken and subsequently had an MRI on 24 July. I then had a call inviting me for a follow up appointment, so everything seemed to be moving very quickly. The follow up appointment was later cancelled as I was told that I also needed a CT scan which was carried out on 30 July. I now have an appointment with a consultant from the Gynaecological Oncology department on 11 August. I'm presuming my scan results - and potential treatment plan - will be discussed at this appointment. I'm probably overthinking things but I can't help wondering, and worrying a little, why some people receive their results quite quickly via a phone call and others, like me, have to wait for a formal appointment. I'm trying to keep positive but waiting for results is very stressful.
Hi SH53, protocol varies from hospital to hospital. I was called in to hospital for a face to face appointment to get my MRI/X ray results so that I could also meet my consultant and therefore surgeon. It doesn’t imply seriousness, in case that’s what you’re worrying about. My preliminary staging results, from my MRI, was stage 1a (grade 1), same as my hysteroscopy suggested. The likelihood is that you’ll be told about your preliminary results at your appointment and that you will be having a hysterectomy. The time for talking treatment plans is only after your post-hysterectomy histology results, when the staging will be confirmed. Hoping Weds comes quickly for you!
Thanks for your helpful and reassuring response. It's a different consultant to my initial appointments so that seems to be a step in the right direction. I live on my own so I find it difficult not to think about all the outcomes. I've been on a couple of short breaks with friends and family since my initial diagnosis which, helpfully, occupied my mind in a much more positive way!
Hi SH53. I think it depends on the health trust.
I had all my tests and scans done during the height of lockdown in 2020. I'd received an appointment to go and meet a consultant at Nottingham hospital (not my healthcare trust) which was 75 miles and 2 hours drive away. I phoned to ask, "surely if it's going to be a 6 monthly check-up I could have it closer to home?" I was then told I needed surgery as I had cancer - nothing could have been further from my mind. To be told that by a nurse over the phone rather than a face-to-face meeting with a consultant with hubby by my side was really hard.
Nowadays things are pretty much back to normal and much quicker. With you now having had the CT scan likely all of your test reports will have/been presented to your MDT and you'll be fully put in the picture on Thursday. Don't read anything sinister into it, it's just the way different healthcare trusts work and they do a brilliant job!
Hugs, Barb xx
