Disappointed

I should have had my 3rd chemo today but my bloods and platelets were too low. I’ve to have more blood taken tomorrow and if they are ok I’ll get chemo on Thursday or Friday. Dose anyone know what happens if my bloods don’t go back up? I know that this can happen so I know I have to be patient.

  • Hi I had to have a blood transfusion before my final chemo as my anaemia was getting worse. I had the transfusion done on the Tuesday, they took bloods after, then did my covid swab as 3 days before my chemo on the Friday. I had another blood test done before the final chemo which showed my levels had increased.

  • Thanks Barb for replying,I think it was something I wasn’t expecting as I feel so good the now. A few days after my treatment I do get a lot of nerve pain and muscle pain then I have two days of being very weak but after that I feel great. I’ll just have to learn to be patient. I’ve been for more bloods this morning so I’ve got my fingers crossed all will be fine.xx Jean

  • I hope your blood results are good and you can continue again soon.  It sounds like you are doing really well on it. How many more cycles should you be having Jean?

  • I’ve to 6 cycles and this is my 3rd and after that I’ve 3 brachytherapy Robin. I’ve to have the chemo because after my hysterectomy I was told I was stage 1B because it was more than 50% through the womb lining but I also had excessive vascular invasion. With it being in the blood vessels there is no test to find out if it’s spreading anywhere so this chemotherapy is a precaution just in case. That’s why I so want all 6 cycles if possible. Jean x

  • Bless you Jean, that's completely understandable. I was a little worried about my bloods recently too as they were dropping a bit.

I've stepped up on my diet eating more red meat and leafy veg and cut out caffeine. I know they say the odd Guinness is good too for boosting iron so I have a zero alcohol one with blackcurrant which isn't the best but hopefully helps.

'I ve just had my 4th of 6 cycles too. I'm on a reduced dose of 80% due to a few issues with reactions, but so far so good with these last 2 plus additional days on steroids.

Mine is Stage 1a grade 3 with cells in the perinatal wash so I know how you feel about wanting the full cycles.

Keep us posted on your results, keeping everything crossed for you.

    Hugs Robin x

  • Thank you Robin,I’ve just been told my bloods yesterday were fine and I can have chemo tomorrow. I’ve been trying to eat well ever since being diagnosed ,no alcohol and cut out a lot of sugar. I’m more concerned about the vascular invasion as you don’t know if it’s spread or not that’s why I’ve to have the chemotherapy just in cases it’s spread. You’ve only two more cycles to go now Robin and then have you to have any radiotherapy? Xx jean

  • Hello Jean

Thats wonderful news about your bloods and that your chemo can continue tomorrow,  its horrible if there are any delays to the plan. I have struggled with the eating side of things, because of the reactions to the chemo I'm on additional steroids which makes me so hungry,  it's a real effort to make sure I'm eating as healthy as possible when all I seem to want is rubbish lol.

I've just read your Profile so have a better understanding now about the vascular invasion it wasn't something I had heard about before.

I don't blame you going for chemo just to make sure any cells that might be lurking get zapped, I feel the same way about the cells in my peritoneal.

My Oncologist recommended 4 chemo originally but was open to me having more if i wanted to based having Serous grade 3. Because I have been on a reduced dose I'm hoping for 6 cycles which it a good compromise at 510%. providing the reactions stay at bay. (This one and the previous cycle have been fine)

Yes I have 3 Brachy after a 4 week brake ftom my last chemo cycle. I should be finished treatment by the end of Oct fingers crossed.

    All the best tomorrow Jean.

    Hugs Robin xx

  • Hi Robin, got my chemo dose reduced as I had been on high dose,I asked if I would be getting more cycles with it being reduced and the nurse said no but I see my oncologist on the 17 th August so will ask him then. The reason for a lower dose was my bloods were low after both cycles and I was getting terrible nerve, muscle pain and after the second cycle I had spasms down my spine. I’m much better pain wise with the lower dose which I’m so grateful for but worry that the lower dose won’t be enough if I don’t get more cycles. Have you got less pain now that your dose has been reduced? I thought I  might of got Brachytherapy straight away after chemo I didn’t realise you have to wait a few weeks. Probably that’s  what my oncologist wants to talk to me about. As you can see I don’t have much patience for waiting everything has to be done there and then.lol  I so hope by the end of October this will be all behind you Robin. Hopefully I won’t be very far behind you. Big hugs Jean xx

  • Good morning Jean

Great news that they reduced your dose, it's really worked for me. I wouldn't read too much into what your nurse said, they only have your notes. You can.talk it through with your Oncologist, it's meant to be a joint discussion, they will listen to your concerns and let you know what's in your best interests based on your case.

My 1st dose was at 100% I had a reaction at the start of this and we had to stop for 30 mins when I had  hydrocortisone to get things settled. But a couple of days later I was in so much pain and couldn't walk so was in hospital for 4 days. My 2nd dose was delivered slower building it up hourly so it was a delivery time of 7.5hrs. and at 90% but I had a reaction, my head it was covered in blisters.

The 3rd one was 80% with 10 days steroids, no rash and very little pain, I just take strong pain relief day 4 and 5 mainly for leg pain. Last weeks 4th cycle has been pretty much the same as cycle 3 so very do able. I too see my Oncologist on Monday but intend to let her know I definitely want 6 cycles which mean it will be the equivalent of 5.

To be honest Jean I think we have to be guided by the experts, after my head rash It was looking like I might of had to stop, the clinical pharmacist said there's a fine line between trying to push yourself to have more than 4  if it's going to cause long-term health consequences. I'm just fortunate that the combination I'm on Currently is working for me now.

Yes it will be lovely to know that we will both be finished treatment in Oct.

    Big hugs

    Robin xxx
