Immunotherapy for endometrial carcinosarcoma?

Hello

My mum was diagnosed with uterine cancer three months ago.  She had a total hysterectomy in April and now has the results of the cancer they removed from her womb - she has a stage 3b endometrial carcinoma-sarcoma.  She has been told treatment with chemotherapy (two dugs in combination) is the most evidence based treatment for her type of cancer and is due to start it on 17th June.  My only concern is that she already suffers from peripheral neuropathy from colorectal cancer treatment she had 15 years ago and I've just read that the two chemotherapy drugs she will be given can also cause peripheral neuropathy!  Therefore, I'm wondering whether there are any other evidence based options for this type of endometrial cancer, such as immunotherapy, which seems to have fewer, if any, side effects?

  • Hello yr1982

I was started on chemo, carboplatin and paxlitaxel, after diagnosis of stage 3c2 endometrial cancer.

I did experience peripheral  neuropathy, and the doses were altered. I do still have a small amount of numbness, but it is very mild.

After my operation and radiotherapy, they found my cancer was still progressive and I was started earlier this year on Immunotherapy. It was Dostarlimab, it specifically targets endometrial cancer. There are still risks involved with immunotherapy treatment.

After two treatments, I did suffer some serious side effects and treatment stopped to address these.

Whether or not I get back to treatment is still unsure, but it did have an effect on slight shrinkage of tumours just after two doses. I'm hoping I can eventually get back on it.

It may be worth discussing options with the Oncologist, or MDT, to see if this treatment is suitable for her.

    I hope you have success

    Please keep us updated.

    All the best

  • Hi I have the same type of cancer as your mum, mine was all contained to the womb but it managed to get into 3 lymph nodes.  I had a full hysterectomy in November and I finished chemo in April.  Two of my lymph nodes haven’t changed since my first scan in September and one has shrunk, I am currently stable so the oncologist is happy for me to not have any more treatment unless needed.  My oncologist was going to email the christie in Manchester to see if there was anything else she may have missed but I haven’t heard anything yet.  I hope you and your mum are coping well with everything. X

  • Hi . and welcome to you and your Mum to the group.

Paclitaxel and Carboplatin are the two drugs normally used for this chemo. Often 6 cycles every 21 days. I now suffer from peripheral neuropathy as a result of the Paclitaxel but they can "tweak" it a bit apparently.

I did ask my Oncologist if Immunotherapy was an option for me but was told not for my particular type of cancer (Endometrial Adenocarcinoma serous grade 3) but ask, it may be a good option. Dostarlimab is having very positive results. No doubt there'll be some side effects as I've read ' s post .If you type Dostarlimab in the search bar at the top of the page you should get some results.

  • Hello, I'm so sorry, I just realised I didn't reply to your message.  I'm so sorry about that.  I hope you and your mum are ok?  My mum has completed her chemotherapy but has to have more scans as she has a nodule in her vagina and one of the lung.  They did biopsy her vaginal nodule during the chemo but said the biopsy was 'non-diagnostic!?'  Happy New Year to everone.  Jx
