Hello again, I had my hysteroscopy on 16th May following a transvaginal ultrasound which showed a cyst like endometrium of 13mm, a polyp was removed as it had grown from my uterus through my cervical canal and out of my cervix. Consultant called me this evening to say I have endometrioid carcinoma grade 1, she said I will recieve an appointment in the next few days for a full body MRI scan, I'm in shock even though I sort of expected it, anyone else recently had the same news?
I had this diagnosis 6 weeks ago, followed by MRI and then hysterectomy 2 weeks later. I was so impressed and relieved with how quickly everything happened but it is a huge emotional load to take on so I really feel for you at this stage. Only advice I have is keep asking questions. Nurses and doctors I spoke to were fantastic. Good luck.
Hallo Jane, well done for posting, and I feel for you with your news, I had a hysteroscopy in November 21 and had a polyp removed from just above my cervix. A couple of weeks later I got the same news as you, grade 1 endometrial cancer. I will remember that conversation for the rest of my life because of the shock. Like you I was told I’d be then given a staging MRI and a chest x Ray. These happened 3 days later and the results of those came through a few days after that. It’s honestly an emotional roller coaster and I’d encourage you to contact your CNS for a chat if you’re feeling anxious. I had my laparoscopic hysterectomy in January 22.
Hello again marmitefan59 you were very kind when I first posted about having the hysteroscopy under GA, I actually managed it with gas and air and local anaesthetic and three weeks later here I am again! This might sound crazy but the last 3 weeks have been an absolute nightmare and now I know I have cancer I feel better able to focus my attention on tackling it, everyone in this support group is absolutely fabulous so now I've joined the club I hope I too will become as supportive of others as you are xx
Thank you for your kind words Jane. Once I’d got over the shock of my diagnosis, I also felt better knowing that I was now progressing towards resolving things. Have you had an MRI for anything before?
Yes 7 years ago I had a relatively small stroke and had brain MRI, I remember it being very noisy and feeling a little bit claustrophobic but I managed to get it finished I am 56yrs young now and not sure if I'm peri menopausal or post because of the light bleeding. I am in Leeds West Yorkshire
Hi again Jane, at least you’re familiar with the machine and how things are. I’d had a couple before, one head first and one feet first. I found the head first one claustrophobic too. When I went for my staging MRI I told the nurse about my fear of opening my eyes in there without meaning to, and then feeling claustrophobic and hey presto she suggested an eye mask and produced a new one from a cupboard. It made so much difference and I’d recommend taking your own one (hospitals don’t always have them). My planning MRI was with contrast, which meant I had a cannula put in, then part way through the MRI dye was put in through the cannula. I was also given Buscopan through the cannula to help prevent bowel cramps from the MRI. I was told it would take about 30 mins, but the nurse talked to me all the way through and the time went quicker than I thought it would. As well as my tip about taking an eye mask, I’d also suggest taking socks as your feet can get chilly on the table. Although I was a bit anxious about the scan, I did find it comforting that this would check me over completely. I hope you get your date soon.
Hi Marmitefan59, thank you so much for replying with some excellent tips. I have been fine this week but I now have my appointment for MRI next Monday afternoon 20th June. I've looked at my histology report and I've just gone to pieces as I've realised it has grown outside my uterus into the cervical canal so I'm thinking stage 3 and possibly worse. Panic stations
Whoa Jane, try and hold your horses! Bless you, I hear you and appreciate that you’re anxious, but it’s really important not to try and run ahead and predict the result. I imagine the MRI may indicate whether or not the polyp growing through the cervix has impacted the cervix or cervical canal, and at this point it shouldn’t be assumed that it has. What you could do is phone your CNS and let them know how you’re feeling and where your mind is going. You could also ask them what day your MDT meet which should give you an idea of when you may get your MRI results. I know the waiting is difficult and I understand how easy it can be for our minds to run away with things, but I’d suggest that you try and bring yourself back to the present, and focus on dealing with what’s immediately before you rather than letting your mind race ahead.
I have the number so I will make that call later today, the MDT meet on a Wednesday, and I was going to be discussed ON 22ND, but scan isn't until 20th so not sure if there will be enough time or if it will be delayed until the following Wednesday I hope it isn't delayed another week....
