Hi have recently been diagnosed with early stage and grade of endometrial cancer, and wanted to know if it’s really necessary to have the ovaries removed?

  • I do empathise with you . I have no children of my own but have decided I'm fine with that I have had a very different discussion with my consultant re: ovaries though. Mine told me an oophectomy at a later stage on its own would be a quite simple day case and a two week recovery.

My brother's girlfriend also has a hysterectomy at the start of the year (for endometriosis) and kept her ovaries. She's having a bit of a battle getting on a list for ovary removal (she's still in a lot of pain). You might want to get a different opinion. Although me and her are being treated at the same hospital her consultant and mine seem to have very different attitudes.

Hi Cakenport, ye I also noticed that different consultants have different opinions. They tend to follow the NICE guidelines.

thanks for sharing your stories with me. It really helps. I wish you the best of luck with your surgery.
