Oncologist planning meeting

Hope everyone’s having a good day Blush

So I’ve just returned from my oncologist planning appointment. He confirmed that as far as they could determine my cancer has all been removed however because it was Serous and also in the cervix as well as the womb adjuvant treatment would make sure any stray cells weren’t still lurking.  He’s recommended a 7 week plan of combined chemo radiation with Carbaplatin only  plus 2 or 3 sessions of brachytherapy.  This means I will have 5 weeks of external daily radiotherapy with one day a week having the carbaplatin chemo on top followed by the brachytherapy in the last 2 weeks.  I’m feeling better having a plan and would be interested if anyone else has had this combined treatment and wether side effects were harder due to to having it all together. Upside is I’m not going to be in treatment for months ahead and the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

  • Hi Chrissie, I’m not having chemo but on my radiotherapy visits (I’ve had 14 of 25) I’ve made a friend who is having the chemoradiation combo for cervical cancer and she’s doing really well. She’s having carbaplatin and has been tolerating it well and with no hair loss. We see each other most days so chat quite a lot. Wishing you all the best.

  • Thanks  you’re over halfway !

  • Hi Chrissie, Good to read there's light at the end of the tunnel. I didn't have the same treatment so hopefully some of the ladies here who've had the same will be along soon to reply.

    Sending hugs, Barb xx

  • Hi Chrissie

Thats fantastic news, You will get it over and done with really quickly and not drag it on all through the summer. Do you have a date when it will start yet?  I go for my Oncology appointment Monday and this has given me such a lift to hear that its feasible to do both togther. Maybe it's possible for both at the same time because it's only  Carbaplatin and not a combination of Chemo drugs. It will be really interesting to hear from any of the ladies who have had the same as this.

    Big hugs Robin xxx

  • Hi Robin

It was quite a surprise when he said that was the best option and yes I do think it’s because of only Carbaplatin - I don’t have a date as my wound is till open in parts and Im still getting it packed and dressed daily but he’s provisionally planned my planning scan for three weeks to give it more time  to heal. So Im reckoning maybe a week or so after that - early June. My local hospital James Cook  is one of the leading cancer treatment hospitals so I feel Im in safe hands. Thoughts with you for you Monday appointment .

    Hugs Chrissie xx

  • Fabulous news Chrissie.  Not long now and you will be all sorted.

  • EDIT - Cisplatin not Carbaplatin - got wrong drug name in my head !

  • Bless you - that’s quite important as there can be a varying amount of hair loss with that one.
