Hi, I'm new to all this...
Bit of background, went to GP September 2021 after having a few light bleeds from about June 2021 to the September. I'm 49, but on HRT as I went through an early menopause (it's been 10 years since my last period been on HRT about 8). She referred me for a scan, had that done within 2weeks and everything came back normal.
I've had three more bleeds since then and bloating, with period like aches. She referred me back and this time my womb lining was thicker than it should be and they found an 'area of concern'. I'm waiting for a hysteroscopy and biopsy. It's been a week...how long before I get called in...I'm worrying myself silly.
Thanks
Hi BlurryOne, bless you - the waiting is awful and makes the stress far worse. It very much depends on your hospital and their case load. When I was referred on the 2 week pathway my scan and hysteroscopy were both booked at the same time, one week apart, so that if it was needed I wouldn’t have to wait. I imagine you should hear very soon and really hope you do.
Hi BlurryOne,
After I had two small bleeds I was sent for a Ultrasound and a hysteroscopy. All they found was a fibroid, which apparently shrivel up after menopause and in the consultants words 'Are of little consequence'. He then decided to do a biopsy, which found the cancer. From then onwards it was quite a chaotic round of scans and tests, but within a month I was admitted and sorted out. I had keyhole surgery, which is amazing. If they suspect cancer they don't hang around. I was 72 at the time, and am coming up to 5 years since the operation. Good luck.
Hi Blurry One,
I was referred to gynaecology last July by another hospital consultant as I had unprovoked pulmonary emboli in both lungs, which can be a sign of cancer, and CT scans and a transvaginal scan at that time showed significant endometrial thickening and a 6.5 cm cyst on my ovary. To be honest, I had been bleeding a bit and had stupidly ignored it. I saw the gynaecologist on 30th August, she did a smear and tried to do a biopsy there and then, but couldn’t do it so she referred me for an urgent hysteroscopy as she wanted it done ‘the sooner the better’.
I received my first appointment for December. That appointment was cancelled on the morning I was due to have it done, it was rescheduled for January and that was also cancelled. All due to staff pressures because of Covid. It was then scheduled for February, but was a failed attempt, as she still couldn’t get through my cervix. I finally had it done six weeks ago, this time under general anaesthetic. They removed three polyps and other tissue and sent it off for testing - I’m still waiting for the results, of the biopsy, but they did tell me that they would take 4-6 weeks.. They also inserted a Mirena coil to thin the lining of the uterus as this is a treatment for the thickening and I’m still bleeding now.
Like you, I had an early menopause - last period at 38, so 22 years ago as I’m 60. As I’m obese I’ve most likely had unopposed eostrogen for all that time as I wasn’t on HRT.
I know that the waiting is very difficult, but it’s difficult to know how quickly you may hear from them. I really hope the pressure has eased off them a little and you hear much sooner than me, and that it’s more straightforward for you. Perhaps it varies between area (I’m in Scotland).
Fingers crossed that you hear back very soon x
Thank you Nonentity, yes Covid...I think that is still having a massive impact on waiting times...I just need to be patient and trust in them I guess. It sounds like you've has a rough ride with things hope you get your results soon. Xx
Hi BlurryOne,
I wouldn't be too down hearted about waiting times. My husband has just been through two operations for bowel cancer, and Covid has interfered with it very little. He was kept in high care for a couple of weeks simply because they had no room anywhere else. I really think they are doing everything to catch up from what I saw.xx
Hi sorry I wasn't around to welcome you. We all agree here the hard bit is waiting for appointments, then the results, then more tests..... We've all been there and know how you feel.
Once you've had the hysteroscopy and biopsy thing will be a little clearer to your team then you'll probably have a CT/MRI scan.
