Grade 3 Serous

At last I have found the courage to join.  Previous breast cancer successfully treated 14 years ago but left with chronic lymphoedema in right arm owing to lymph node removal.  Now diagnosed with Grade 3 serous after a very long delay.  Fast tracked last September.  Decided to have op privately owing to Covid.  Open hysterectomy 25/1 but problems with incision healing which opened up at one end whilst doing pelvic floor exercises recommended by consultant.  Have spoken with CNS and seeing NHS oncologist in a couple of weeks so really stressed and concerned at time delay.  CNS confirmed probably have CT scan first.  When initially diagnosed told "dont worry this is a good cancer to get.  Its slow growing!!!!!"  Unbelievable.  I am not sure if at the age of nearly 70 I can go through chemo and radiotherapy with all the side effects.  Could not bear lymphoedema in my legs.  Lymphodeama in arm has been difficult with no help from NHS apart from measuring up for bigger and bigger sleeves and told dont worry.  Feel sick to my stomach with it all.  Initial diagnosis was Grade 2/1A now of course a Grade 3 and not sure what stage it is.  Sorry,, just looking for support.  Feel that yet again my body has let me down.

  • Bless you Daisy - welcome to the group. I feel for you and imagine your mind is racing with the impact, the shock and the what ifs. I’d really encourage to try and slow things down and take things one step at a time. All the waiting is the absolute pits, but you will get through it. And we are a lovely bunch of ladies here who will support you when you need to chat or vent or ask questions. I’m glad you’re in touch with your CNS team and would encourage you to phone them too when you feel anxious, and also to ask them what the stage was from the histology. I’m guessing that you didn’t have a scan before your hysterectomy?

  • Hello Daisy, sounds like you have been through the mill. It’s so hard dealing with delays and feeling as if you have very little control. It’s a real rollercoaster of emotions but I hope you have moments where you can find something nice to do or look at to distract you for a bit. I had numerous contact with my GP during covid with irregular heavy bleeding, sometimes lasting 30 days and in between pink spotting. They dismissed it as the menopause and it took a year and a bit to get a referral for a hysteroscopy with a biopsy! I felt so shocked to be told I had cancer and really gutted it had taken a lot of pushing to get taken seriously. I decided to try and shelf the anger and disappointment til later and focus on the here and now. Not easy, and it pops up there sometimes. Too much to deal with and go through all this . I try really hard to live in the moment and pull myself back from the despair as much as I can. It’s a way of getting a wee bit of control back for now! I really hope you get a lot of support to get through this . Take care Ax

  • Hello Daisy and welcome to the group.  I know it's hard having any cancer diagnosed but I was shocked to find min e was SEROUS  I really didn't think it would be this one.  Beforehand visit to the consultant I made a list of all the common uterus cancers and wrote a brief description and prognosis of each cancer  and I remember the consultant said high grade serous,  I just thought that's one I definitely didn't want,!

So I'd just like to say ask away any questions. If you want.  I had my op 26 Jan this year and currently receiving 6 rounds of chemo every 21 days and just had my second one today. After chemo ends ( which is optional choice) I will have 3 sessions of Brachytherapy.

    Best wishes  xx
