Evening ladies, just a question for people on chemo or even radio, do you suffer with joint pain? Since my 4th chemo session last week I have noticed my joints (mainly wrists) but also knees and ankles are hurting and can be painful. Wondering if anyone is the same and has any tips? Thanks. X
Hi @Lindy67 I was told at my pre assessment that muscle and joint pain can be a side effect and it mentions it on here but I will be calling my CNS this week for a catch up as I am having an ultrasound on my arm because of a lump so I am going to mention it to her. X
Hi Rach. Yes joint pain has been a part of my chemo effects since the start. In fact it was worst in cycle 1. It seems to be a flow - goes from my ankles to knees then up round the groin, then down again - very unpleasant! This cycle my wrists have also been included - sometimes I feel that I just ache all over, but it does seem to move around and is not there constantly. I have taken paracetamol and having a warm bath is nice too - I find the pains lessen then go completely by about Day 12.
Hope they don’t last too long for you x
Thanks for the reply GwenDot my kness and ankles don’t seem to be as bad but my wrist is quite sore, it’s painful when I put any weight on it or if something is heavy. Seems to have only started in the last day or so. I thought it might have been the chemo had leaked but had the cannula in my other hand. I can’t remember if it happened last time as well as I don’t seem to have made a note of it. X
Hi Rach I had a slight aching in the top of my legs for a day following my first chemo and the oncology nurse said that this pain was normal. This second time round I had quite aching legs and knee joints for a week and my legs also felt a bit heavy. My knee joints also felt a bit swollen. Thankfully it wasn’t that bad that I needed painkillers and it hasn’t come back-now on day 14! I have read on another post that a chemo nurse recommended tonic water as the quinine may help with the pains so that may be worth a go. Otherwise if the pain is too bad don’t suffer-contact your CSN for advice. XX
