Diagnosis

Hi everyone, I am new here and was diagnosed with grade 1a at the end of last year. My diagnosis was through having a total hysterectomy. I had lots of tests beforehand which were ultrasound scan, a biopsy, hysteroscopy with another biopsy which showed atypical hyperplasia and also had an mri scan. None of the tests found the 1cm solid tumor that was there. I just wondered if anyone else has had similar experiences? I am grateful that it was found but am finding it hard to understand how it was not seen, especially the mri. I have just had my first check up and had a biopsy taken of the vault, the doctor thinks it is granulation but am now worried about recurrence and trusting the tests used to find it. Both biopsies I had before didn't pick up the cancer. Thanks in advance

  • Hi Sunrise4 May I ask why a biopsy was taken at your first check up. Have you had any symptoms? I was the same stage and grade as you and had a biopsy because I had symptoms. A 1cm tumor is small and I believe that tumors have to be a certain size to be picked up by scans. I had a CT scan before I was put on the 2 week pathway and my 4cm x 2cm tumor was not picked up. I think these scans pick up spreads outsize the womb but I'm not a medical person. Maybe a chat to your CN may give you some perspective on tests.  Hope all goes well for you. Dawn

  • Hi Sunrise, welcome to the group. For clarification and to help me understand, could I just ask if you’d had a cancer diagnosis before you had the hysterectomy?

  • Hi Chickplc,

I had a biopsy as an area was seen during an internal examination at my first check up. I have no symptoms apart from feeling very tired but no bleeding.

I always thought mri could see most things so this has changed my perception.

Thanks for your message and advice :)

  • Hi MarmiteFan59,

Thanks, no I didn't have a cancer diagnosis before the hysterectomy just atypical hyperplasia. None of the tests found it and am struggling to be able to trust tests going forward. I was starting to have confidence in my body until my first check up was told I needed a biopsy and it brought it all back! Just feels like a roller coaster!
