Hysteroscopy under general

Morning ladies

Does anyone have experience of a hysteroscopy under general where it couldn’t be completed and required a laparoscopy? Interested to see if it’s common for them not to be able to complete the procedure without the laparoscopy where you have a tilted and twisted cervix. Grateful for any advice. Thank you.

Hi Sarah. As my cervix was stenosed the Nurse gave up trying to perform the hysteroscopy when she couldn't insert a Virginal speculum without causing extreme pain. As a result I was referred to have the procedure done under general anaesthetic a couple of weeks later.

It was done under epidural but I don't think it was done laparoscopically - I certainly didn't have any scars on my tummy so assume not. I suppose if the cervix is tilted to that extent they might have to do it that way.

BTW The surgeon who did my procedure missed a 4cm tumour so it was a bit of a waste of time.

    Big hugs, Barb xx

  • Hi Barb

Thank you for sharing that. Yes, she has cervical stenosis too, just to add to the mix, so the consultant couldn’t do it in clinic last week. They have said they will attempt to do it vaginally under ga, and try and move the cervix, but the consent papers say laparoscopic if unsuccessful trying that. I’m guessing there would be a small incision on her tummy if so.

I am concerned about missing something, because of her pain which they have been blaming on something else, which I never believed. After my own experiences, I’m ultra sensitive to gynae stuff now! Hope you’re feeling ok today Barb.
