Well got my MRI results today didn’t think it be that quick my consultant says the cancer is contained only in my uterus has not spread anywhere so shouldn’t need any treatment after my op

im not gonna lie I burst into tears the relief was unbelievable.  I’m under no illusions that the recovery from my op is long term but I can be reassured all the cancer will be removed

thanks for all your support so far and I hope you all get good news too soon x

  • Yay.......good news, so pleased for u. X

  • Zippy, that’s great news.
I don’t want to put a dampener on things at all, but that’s what I was told too. And for many women it does turn out that way (needing nothing more than the op)  and I really hope it’s the case for you. However the staging you’ve been given (I presume you’ve been told 1a or 1b) is probable and not 100% definite. That will only be known after the histology comes back from your hysterectomy. After my MRI I was told grade 1 stage 1a. My consultant even went so far as to say he was 90% sure I’d not need any adjuvant therapy/treatment. I tried to bear it in mind that it wasn’t 100% definite but I think I held onto the “90% sure” a bit too much. After my hysterectomy my consultant told me everything had gone well and from his perspective looked like it was all as he’d thought.

When I went back for my results, I was told that though the op had gone well, the histology had “unexpectedly” also detected a few cancerous cells on top of my cervix, which meant my staging had gone from stage 1a to stage 2 (though remained grade 1), and that they’d be offering me radiotherapy as a kind of insurance policy.. That the cancer had all been removed, but the spread to my cervix meant there might be some cells in my lymphatic system and that the radiotherapy would reduce the risk of recurrence if there were any. I may not even have any cancer cells in my lymphatic system (I didn’t have a lymphadenectomy during my hysterectomy so it’s not known), The impact of being told all this was I think as bad as when I was originally told I had cancer. I think I had got myself psyched up for my hysterectomy based on that meaning it would all likely be over then, that shadow over my life would be gone, and I could get my life back. To find out that wasn’t the case (yet) really pulled the rug out from underneath me. Whilst I understand my consultant wanting to be positive, I don’t think he should have said what he did how he did (ie the 90%j.

I wish you all the best, and sincerely hope for you that it all ends for you with your surgery, but felt I should just suggest you hold it lightly until after your op, just in case.

  • Thanks marmite xxxx I know everything still needs testing etc and nothing definite until that’s done the mri showed no spread to lymphatic system she said so very positive xxx I’m having everything removed cervix included so fingers crossed it will be gone xxx

pre ops on Wednesday I’m off work now on isolation haha this house is sparkling x

  • Hi Zippy, I also had everything removed and have made a super physical recovery and it’s great to know it’s all gone and I don’t now have cancer! My radio will be to nuke any cells that may be there (not detectable on MRI), to help prevent recurrence. All the best for your op! What time do you have to be there on the day?

  • Hi . Good to read the scan results look good. you have to be aware though that it's only the histology after the hysterectomy an BSO that will definitively show the cancer has been removed. They will also sample lymph nodes and check LVSI (Lymph vascular space invasion) If you're all clear no further adjuvant treatment may be offered.

I wish you well. Big hugs, Barb xx

  • Hi  just to say that not all hospitals do lymph node sampling routinely - mine didn’t for me as I was probable grade 1 stage 1a and they don’t do it for very low grade. If they had I might not now be going to have radio - but hey ho!
