Ct planning scan

Hi - I had my ct scan today and will be starting radiotherapy on 21st March.  If you are having yours soon, drink lots beforehand and allow plenty of time.  I had to have a cannula for the dye, but not everyone has this.  I also had an enema (again not everyone has this either).  You are weighed and then have to empty your bladder and bowels if you can.  You then have to drink a set amount of water which they will specify and then they will collect you approx half hour later for the scan.  Everyone was lovely and talked me through each step.  Scan is very straightforward - was scanned with full bladder, then again with empty bladder.  The tattoos didn’t hurt either.  Feels good to have one more thing ticked off the list!  I was worried about having this procedure, but there was no need to be x

  • Well done.  Thanks for the info and yes another tick off your list. You will sleep well tonight xx

  • Thank you Blush I really will sleep so much better tonight - it really wasn’t worth the worry xx

  • Thanks Lolabo and well done! Next Weds I’ll be having dye via a cannula too. Hoping I won’t need to have an enema! Thinking of you as you prepare for the 21st. Remember you will have extra days off on Good Friday and Easter Monday!

  • I’m sure you will smash next week too MarmiteFan Muscle I was given my enema at my oncologist appointment to bring with me, so I’m guessing you won’t be needing one.  I hadn’t thought of the bank holiday - As a bonus I can eat Easter eggs and hot cross buns instead on those days instead then lol - I’ll probably be grateful for the long weekend to be honest xx

  • Forgot to say - make sure you take a warm cardie or hoodie and also a nice cosy blanket.  You have to take your trousers/skirt off and have your stomach exposed  (wear a two piece not a dress!) .  The room was air conditioned and I only had a bra and a thin T-shirt hoisted up (didn’t wear long sleeves due to having a cannula, but wished I hadn’t left my cardie in hubby’s car now!).  I was so cold but they were really lovely and very kindly put some heated blankets on my legs and one on my shoulders to try and warm me up, but they strongly recommended bringing my own nice warm fleecy blanket for radiotheraphy sessions as the hospital blankets are very thin xx

  • Thanks  that’s helpful. I’m often a trousers, t shirt and hoodie person so I’ll go with rhat! (Haven’t worn a dress in 30 years I think!). When I had my MRI with contrast they put a cannula in my hand, so I’m thinking they may do the same for this. That’s a good tip about a blanket for radiotherapy sessions, thank you,
