Hello and happy and sunny Sunday to you.  I have a PCR covid test on Wednesday and my pre chemo assessment is now on Friday but I also have two trips to the hospital tomorrow.  One appointment in the morning for an injection of a radioactive dye and another in the afternoon for a blood test to check how well my kidneys are working.  I haven’t seen any posts about this but I assume it’s the norm!??   Thank you. XX

  • Hi Walkinglady- have they given you a start date for chemo?  If you are having the PCR test on Wednesday I would expect it to be imminent?  I had to have an ecg, height weight, blood pressure etc and then blood tests - part would test my liver and kidney function.  I was told not to have alcohol for a day before the blood tests, so that my liver and kidneys were in tip top condition, but I did not have any dye injected - I wonder what that is for?  I wonder if others have had that.  Take care and enjoy the sun x

  • I didn’t have the dye but had my height, weight, blood pressure and bloods taken when I went for my assessment. X

  • Hi I haven’t had a date to start my chemo yet but the covid test this Wednesday is something my hospital does before I am allowed on the Chemotherapy Unit on Friday for my assessment.  I have just got back from my second trip to the hospital today-thankfully it is less than 30 minutes away and we have been given a free parking pass. The radiologist said that the radioactive dye/blood test gives a more accurate result of kidney function. I don’t know whether it is because my hospital has a nuclear department and is a university hospital or just due to the variation in tests/treatment by different hospital trusts that everyone is not given this.  Harry has had to make do with a couple of short walks so far today so we are just going to take him out.  Take care all xx

  • Sending lots of love for your appointments and tests. You’ve got this, you have support beyond belief here, and we send all our love. Harry will be more than happy with his little walks, and this glorious sunshine and fresh air will do you all the world of good. Thinking of you Trish, lots of love Emm xx

  • Thanks Emm.  When I was in the hospital waiting room there was a painting of a huge wave and it made me feel that being diagnosed with cancer can feel like a tidal wave of emotions washing over you.  Sometimes you feel like you are going under but then you see a lifeboat coming towards you-it is the womb group ladies rowing as fast as they can to pick you up.  Rowboat

  • Hi . I didn't have a radioactive dye myself. My kidney function was tested within my blood test. I'm getting into the routine now. Three days before my chemo I go to the local hospital for a blood test then have a Covid test then isolate until the treatment.

    Hugs, Barb xx
