I’ve just seen LSVI mentioned and didn’t know what it was so I’ve looked it up and know now. Is this something that’s tested for after a hysterectomy or at another time?
Hi MarmiteFan59. I think that LVSI is picked up in the histology following your hysterectomy. I had never heard of it either and so was quite shocked to learn that I had it. I was quite worried when I read about it on Google (bad Idea!) but was reassured that adjuvant RT should work. Five years later It seems they were right.

Hi MarmiteFan59 it's tested after hysterectomy when they send everything to histology. I had never heard of it before and I too was shocked to learn I had it and didn't like what I had Googled about it either, as I hadn't found this forum at that point in my journey 4 years ago.

Hi - I had to look it up too! I think it is tested for after the hysterectomy, in the histology/ analysis of the removed uterus. Someone else might correct me, but I think if they found cells had spread to the lymph nodes, or to the surrounding spaces then this would be LSVI
i have made a mental note to clarify this at my next appointment x
I'm not sure if I had it too. My surgeon says cancer cells were found in the blood vessels. He didn't mention the lymph nodes. I'm going to have radiotherapy and he says time is NOT of the essence; indeed there is a good chance ("not fantastic but good") that it may not recur even if I decide not to have radiotherapy. I have a copy of my histology report and it says "vascular invasion" - no mention of the lymoh nodes. According to the internet LVSI is the presence of cancer cells withing the lymphatic system AND/OR blood vessels. I guess everyone's histology is different.
Hi MarmiteFan59 LVSI (Lymph vascular space invasion) is carried out during the histology after the hysterectomy as well as "sampling" lymph nodes. My scores on each were 0.
From what I've read if anything shows up in either then chemo and or radiotherapy is offered. In my case as I just had the brachytherapy. In hindsight knowing my grade was serous 3 I wish I'd argued for having chemo but we're led by the professionals. I don't blame them, they were following guidelines issued by FIGO but given some malignant cells had been found in the peritoneal wash I think it was fate they set up shop somewhere else!
