Thank you for your support and good luck wishes..  I got back home a couple of hours ago from having robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy and oophorectomy yesterday.  Pain and bloating not as bad as I had feared, painful wind in chest and burping a lot and feel weary but operation all went as planned.  I will put more detail tomorrow on my reply to MarmitefFan59’s post.  Just going to do my first Fragmin injection.Fingers crossed

  • Hi Walkinglady!

I am so glad to hear from you, I have been thinking of you all yesterday. So glad you’re home, and everything went well. Just take it really easy now, rest when you can, and if sleep at night is a bit hit and miss have naps during the day. The injections aren’t the best, but after days it becomes part of your routine. I wrote in a small notebook everyday of what I had done, how I felt, and found it really helpful when speaking to the nurse when they rang to see how I was. Sending lots of healing hugs, and share your relief that it’s over! Take care, love Emm xx

  • Glad you are feeling well, take care and get plenty of rest x

  • Hi everyone

Why is everything I need on a high or low shelf??? Can you please pass me ……. is my favourite sentence at the moment!  I couldn’t get comfy in bed at all last night and for some reason had a lot of pain in my right shoulder, probably from the wind round that area and my chest so I got onto the recliner chair and hubby slept on the sofa.  I know everyone said you need big knickers but I think you need some a couple of sizes up from your usual ones.  Hubby is also getting me a v shaped pillow to give me a but more support in bed as I usually sleep on my side.  I had some bleeding during the night from one of the operation sites but I have put a new dressing on and it all seems okay now.  Take care all and be kind to yourselves XX

  • Morning! Yes, we take for granted that usually everything is touchable don’t we, until it’s not! The shoulder pain I am sure will be the effects of the gas used in the laparoscopic procedure, it is so common. I have a v pillow, and one of the cuddle cushions which is great for propping me up. It’s awful when you are used to sleeping in one position then it’s not an option anymore isn’t it? I sleep on my front  and that was out of the question, so I’m sure that’s why I couldn’t sleep. My husband slept in another bed for 5 weeks, not because of any discomfort I may have been in, but because I couldn’t sleep neither did he if we were in the same room, so at least he had a decent night sleep. It will all come back, it just takes a bit of time. Remember you have just had a major surgical procedure, and as such your body is still under shock and in recovery of the anaesthetic and trauma it has endured. I agree with the knicker situation completely! Pull them right up over your midriff, mine were so comfy, I’m not going back! They’re here to stay! I’m wishing you a lovely peaceful healing day today, take it easy, have a nap, potter about when you can, & look forward to your next jab- one more down ! Love Emm xx

  • Hi Walkinglady, I do hope your recovery continues to go well.

After my recently hysterectomy (October 2021) I found for the first week I suffered from terrible constipation.  I now take prunes on a regular basis and don't have any problems.  I mentioned this to one of the nurses when they telephoned me to check I was recovering OK and they recommended that I take a senna laxative and that definitely worked.  I only needed to take the one and then I felt so much better.

  • Hi , good to hear you're home after your op and it sounds like you're doing really well! Lots of ladies have mentioned suffering pain in their shoulders and I think it's partly to don with the position were put into during the op so that should go off soon.

I also found it hard not being able to sleep on my side for a while was uncomfortable so also got a V shaped pillow which did help.

Take it slowly and listen to your body, stay safe, Barb xx

  • So glad you are home and getting on ok.  I had the shoulder pain too - fortunately it went quite quickly.  I am still on the injections and it is the worst part of the day!  I hate injections, but my hubby does it for me - I am very grateful for that!  Take care x

  • Hi Walkinglady, pleased to read that the op went well. Hope you are continuing to do well. The first few days are the most difficult and I’m sure you’ll start to feel stronger soon. I still have problems getting comfortable in bed as I’m also a side sleeper, and I often give up and spend the rest of the night downstairs in the recliner. But as I don’t have to do anything all day and can nap when I feel like it, I just go with the flow. Oh, and I’m wearing size 22 knickers (I’m normally size 16) RoflRofl
