Hysteroscopy was attempted today, without anaesthesia (my womb lining is 8mm and am BRCA1).

Far too painful, I'm afraid, so booked for a general, hopefully next week.

This is  at a London hospital, (Guys), and I travel by train......Will I be OK to do so afterwards, if I have someone accompanying me?

If not, we have a problem.

  • Hi - I also had a hysteroscopy done via general as too painful otherwise. Have a quick word with your consultant or CNS. I think you should be fine if travelling by train if you have someone with you.

You certainly can't drive whether it's done by GA or epidural.

After my epidural I was in a recovery room with nurses checking on me every so often. I was totally numb from the waist down, strange feeling believe me. It took about 3 hours until I could feel sensation by pinching my buttocks! The nurses helped me to swivel off the bed and stood by to make sure I was steady on my feet. Once I could take a few steps unaided I was able to dress and walk out to the car.

    Sending hugs, Barb x

Sorry was thinking hysterectomy as dr said by epidural

  • I believe some hysterectomies have been done by epidural but no way was that for me LOL! My hubby was asked if he wanted his hip replacement done by epidural - he watched a YouTube video on the procedure and passed!

Yes I was thinking the same

  • I had my third child delivered by caesarean section with an epidural. I actually watched it in the chrome light fitting they use. It feels like someone is rummaging around your insides but it doesn't hurt at all.
