I had an open total hysterectomy 4 weeks ago. I am still very sore and having ongoing problems with my bladder and bowel. When I eat I get really bad stomach and back pain and diarrhoea. This means that I am loath to eat and when I eat I only manage a couple of bites of food. I've lost 16lb in the last 4 weeks. I am overweight so I can afford to lose weight but I'm exhausted all the time. I've had a CT scan of my abdomen which didn't show any problems and I'm having a CT of my chest this Saturday to check for any spread. I'm also waiting for my appointment with the sarcoma consultant at the Christie hospital.

  • Hi . I'm sorry to read you're still having bladder & bowel problems. I didn't experience any of this , had laparoscopic and didn't have the shoulder pain some ladies mentioned due to the angle they put us for the op.

I'd have a word with your CNS and see what she suggests. It might be the anaesthetic is still working it's way out of your system but as you say if you're not eating you're not get any nutrition hence the exhaustion. Good over the weight loss though but not the way to do it. The most effective weight loss I ever had was when I got Salmonella poisoning - also not the most pleasant way to lose it!

Great the CT scan of your abdomen was good. Fingers crossed for the CT scan on Saturday and hope you get your appointment at the Christie Hospital quickly.

    Big hugs, Barb xx

  • Hi Deborino sorry to hear of your discomfort but i'm in similar situation though my op was laproscopic so no big scar to contend with just 5 small cuts, but I do have the problem with Bowels i'm just coming up to 5 weeks.. My appetite is better than it was a week ago but i tend to graze through the day, and i have changed my diet completely. this is the first day i havn't ( up to now ) ended up with dreadful discomfort. but I still have the diarrhoea. ( prefer that to the constipation it has to be said ) I have lost about 6 pounds buy I don't appear to be getting any smaller lol, so i am blaming internal swelling for the fact my clothes still don't fit, and trousers are a no no. .I am sat waiting for my call with the Oncologist to discuss follow on treatment.,  Good Luck with your scans and I hope you start to feel a bit more comfortable soon
