Hi Ladies

I’ve been doing quite well all week however yesterday I stared getting pain passing urine/ opening bowels/ passing wind. It feels almost like bruising as it’s primarily when I go to the loo and relax my muscles.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar? I really feel like I’ve taken a step backwards as things were going well.

  • Hi Kate

I  had my surgery on the 9th July, this was a full hysterectomy (laparscopic) uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, omentum and pelvic lymph nodes removed. Like you I experienced a lot of pain when I went to the loo to empty my bladder and bowels. I found that walking around the house helped to relieve the symptoms (expels gas)and peppermint tea was great. I have also been doing the exercises that I was given by the physio dept.

You might want to check that you don't have a water infection, I had my urine tested and it was positive. I think it might have been because I was catheterised. A course of antibiotics soon cleared up. Blush

I'm now 4 weeks post surgery and feeling well with normal bowel and bladder movements.

I had my meeting with the team on Thursday 5th August and was told that my cancer was still staged as 1b grade 3 with nothing showing in the lymph nodes which I was relieved to hear.

I'm now going to have Chemotherapy and Brachytherapy adjuvant treatments. I will post how I get on.

Wishing you lots of luck keep your chin up xx

Hi Kate. I you might have a UTI from the catheter, it seems to be quite common and antibiotics normally clear it up. Also you are likely to experience pain internally, they've had a good old rummage around in your body and your body's fighting back. I did also suffer with wind and constipation, I took the senna, movicol, normacol and anything available to ease. But I couldn't stand the peppermint tea which a lot of people seem to love. The trouble is you're so worried about straining anything.

TBH I do suffer with wind much more than I did before my op and Brachytherapy but I adopt the adage my hubby's mum told me " Where ere you be, let your wind go free, where ere it be in hovel or castle , let it whistle out your ****hole !! Never thought when she said it I'd be able to do the "trumpet voluntary" years later.

If it persists, call your CNS for reassurance.

Big hugs, Barb xx Loud sound

  • Hi Katlee,

I could feel nothing for about a week afterwards. I couldn't even tell when I needed the loo. Then my feeling started to come back. I also discovered that if I put a warm flannel over my bladder area it relaxed me even more so I could empty the bladder better. I think I was badly bruised, but I would get checked out. I went back to the hospital 4 days after my operation because my bladder was doing weird things. Needing a wee every hour and only passing a thimbleful! Passing urine involuntarily after a warm bath. I didn't have a UTI. They said it was all just settling down. xxx

  • Hi Julie, Mrs BJH, NannyAnny

Thank you all for your input. Just back from NHS 24 with antibiotics. Don’t have a UTI but do have a temp. The other option was to be admitted which I’m not keen on if I don’t have to.

TBH I don’t think the GP I saw had a clue. I’ll see how I go with them and I’ve got someone bringing me peppermint tea to try.
I will phone my CNS on Monday though to discuss it with her.

  • Hi Katlee,

    Glad you've been checked.

I had 'funny' pains for months afterwards. It felt as if something was crawling under my skin, but it was exactly like shingles pain, so I knew it was nerve endings knitting together.
