So painful

I almost didn't come back to the forum as it turns out that I don't have cancer after all. I was diagnosed with a cancerous fibroid and told that I needed a total hysterectomy. I had my open surgery on the 13th July and was told that it wasn't cancerous. I still haven't had my histology back but I'm not expecting it to be bad news. I left hospital two days after my op but went back in the day after as I was in so much pain. I have liver disease which means I can't take strong painkillers. I stayed in for another two days and they did a CT as every time I emptied my bladder or bowel it was excruciating. It felt like my bladder was spasming. There weren't any collections so it seems that it's due to the excessive adhesions from my previous c.sections which needed a lot of resecting during the hysterectomy. I am still struggling with the pain which doesn't seem to be getting any easier. Any advice? Deb

  • Hi Deborino,

I'm sure you are welcome here whether you have cancer or not, and what good news for you!

Moving my bowels was uncomfortable for a couple of weeks, but gradually got easier. I also had bladder problems for a few weeks. I had absolutely no feeling down there, so didn't know when I needed the loo. I went by time at first. In the first week home my bladder was all over. Sometimes it emptied itself without any decision on my part! I went back to be checked and they said it was just settling down. I found as I walked more each day things got easier. Are you walking yet? I think moving around certainly helped me.

I had feelings as if something was crawling under my skin for a very long time.(6 months or more) I'd had shingles previously and it was very much like that. I guess it was nerve endings knitting together.  xxx

  • Hi . Good to hear from you and read your good news, sorry to hear about the pain you're experiencing. Have a chat with your CNS or contact your GP for advice on pain relief. My hubby was on co-codamol for his hip problem - they didn't touch the sides for pain relief - they made him so ill with constipation and sleepy all the time. He's now had a cortisone jab which has helped with the pain but it's so debilitating.

I hope they get you sorted out and quickly. Come back and let us know about your histology results if you feel like it.

Sending you hugs, Barb xx Hugging
