Hi can anyone let me know if it is possible to do grading prior to surgery. I read about a lot of women being staged and graded before their op and wonder why my surgeon couldnt do mine. All she said was its stage 1 but not known if A or B until the histology. Thank you in advance.
Janet
Hi Janet
My grading following my biopsy and before op was stage 1A grade 1. Histology after the op upgraded things to stage 1b, grade 3 so it must be what they find on what they've taken out is the final result. In addition the surgeon who did my hysteroscopy said she didn't find anything untoward but she'd missed a 4cm tumour.
I think that's what shocked me when given my first stage 1A grade stage1 result, I understood there's be no adjuvant treatment needed but after the op they regraded as stage 1B (cancer grown more than halfway into the muscle wall) and the grade was increased from 1 (look normal, slow growing) to 3 more aggressive.
Hope that helps, big hugs, Barb xx

Hi Janetmum,
I think they can give you a rough guide beforehand, but nothing is definite until they get in there and see exactly whats what!! Also, my consultant was very cagey until afterwards. She wouldn't commit herself until after the operation and the results were in. She then gave me a high five, which amazed me after what she had been like! I think a lot of them won't commit themselves in this age of people suing.xx
Hi Janet,
My ultrasound and hysteroscopy tests missed a 3.5cm tumour - it showed up on CT scan though. My biopsy from hysteroscopy suggested I was Grade 1 Stage 1a, possibly 1b. Following my hysterectomy, the histology confirmed 1b and upped me to Grade 2 (intermediate, more abnormal cells than those at Grade 1).
All the best,
Dx
Hi I was told that my cells from the biopsy were grade 1/2 but didn’t know the stage until after surgery and the histology results, I believe the MRI/ CT scans and give an idea of the stage. Best wishes
