Bit of a surprise this afternoon - the MDT meeting has decided my scans aren't clear enough to make a firm diagnosis on spread into lymph nodes, so I'll be sent to a different hospital (where they have more experience of gynae ops) for further investigations. I'd thought everything seemed straightforward after last appointments but thrown into uncertainty now. Only upside I can see at the moment is that I won't have a COVID swab up my nose on my birthday... Starting to worry this may be worse than I first thought :-(
Hi Just65,
Thanks for asking. Recently started the diagnosis process - had a vaginal ultrasound, followed by hysteroscopy and biopsy (positive) on 10 Sept. Consultant confimed Grade 1 on 23 Sept and since then I've had CT and MRI scans plus pre-op assessment. Thought I was scheduled for surgery next Monday 12 Oct but all up in the air now...
Hi Dreamweaver,
Okay that makes sense now, I think they are being very thorough. They will probably want to do more scans if they were not very clear so they can move forward with the right treatment plan they use the scans for planning other things as well like during surgery.
I know this is a nuisance but they have to be very precise before they will do anything else, try & keep positive until you get your next appointment it may be quite straight forward as in quality of scan was not good enough.
Love & Hugs
Thanks Just65: my partner always says I'm a catastrophist whereas I see myself as an engineer carrying out a risk assessment :-) I know I'm tired and a bit sore today (overdid the yoga last night) so was very disappointed when I heard the news. You've cheered me up and made me realise the importance of the doctors being sure before they get to work on the treatment.
Cheers,
x
Hi Dreamweaver,
The MDT is compiled of quite a few medical specialists from Surgeons to Oncologists to Clinical specialist nurses so if they believe they need another Scan/Scans then that's how it will be as I said they are very precise before arranging any treatment plan.
Try to chill a little, hopefully they will sort out another Scan appointment for you pretty soon.
Hi Dreamweaver
Lucky you avoiding a covid swab on your birthday, I had one of mine on my Ruby wedding anniversary!
Don't worry about the different hospitals, I live in Lincolnshire and had all my scans, tests were done there but went to Nottingham to see the Consultant who is one of the top Laparoscopic Gynae surgeons in the country and has pioneered many treatments. My op was done at Nottingham by one of the team he trained and she did a brilliant job.
Strange thing, when the ward round was done the next day, the surgeon who came to see me post-op me said she'd watched my procedure on the TV screen in the adjacent operating theatre, together with her whole team, whilst between operations - she said my surgeon had done a great job! It's probably on Youtube!!
Also a lot of the diagnosis happens after the op has been done and histology results are out. If you want to know more, feel free to message me.
Don't worry (daft thing for me to say, human nature dictates otherwise) Big hugs to you, keep in touch, Barb xx

Thanks Barb, interesting to hear about your experience!
I met with a consultant today to try and find out what was happening. She explained that the MDT had looked at my scans and biopsy results on Monday this week. It seems I'm borderline on Stage (1a/1b) and Grade (1/2) and a second opinion is being sought from Northampton, where there is a larger and more experienced gynae/oncology team. Their MDT is held on Tuesday so my case will be presented next week; with clinics on Fridays so I'm hoping for an appointment on 17/10. Perhaps then I'll learn which treatment will be best, and potential date for my op.
Having mentally prepared for an op on 12/10 booked (by my consultant before any of the scans had taken place) I've found this week very hard to get through. However, I feel calmer now I can see it may be several more weeks before the treatment - but am also still worrying as by late October it will be four months since I first noticed some spotting. It took me six weeks before I went to GP - and I only mentioned it while having a smear test, which was negative. My thanks to the practice nurse who insisted I be sent for an ultrasound. And hence why I'm here in this group now!
I'm telling all my menopausal friends now about womb cancer, and not to ignore spotting (I thought it was linked to my hot flushes). So glad to hear you've come out through the other side safely - and become a film star :-)
Take care,
Dx
Update - I've got an appointment with consultant in Northampton tomorrow morning! A welcome surprise after yesterday (had a decent night's sleep for first time in days too). Might be my best birthday present this year!! Seems I'll undergo another pre-op assessment next week and then be expected to socially distance for 2 weeks before they'll operate (at least I think that's what they said). Fingers crossed for tomorrow :-)
Fingers crossed indeed Dreamweaver. It seems standard to be asked to socially distance a couple of weeks before your op which sounds very promising. I have heard others saying that they had to social distance a couple of weeks before I know my Dad had too. Its a good way of reducing the possibility of getting covid-19 and everything being delayed. I was borderline on stages but ended up as 1a grade 2 no further treatment although radiotherapy was put as a back up if necessary so its good to have that extra treatment available if needed. I am glad you had the best birthday present this year of a fantastic nights sleep. Good luck with your pre op and fingers crossed that your op date is very soon.
