Healing by "secondary intention"

I thought I was having a 'wide local excision' for a squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) but my surgeon performed a hemi vulvectomy and left it open ( no stitches) to heal.

Anyone else had that? It took a very long time to heal and then the scar tissue grew harder and harder. I'd very much like to hear if anyone else has experienced that?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

  • Hi

just trying to find out a bit more about secondary intention healing and came across your post. I’m having a WLE on my lower leg for a melanoma soon. I noticed that you didn’t get any replies. I posted looking to hear people’s experience with no response. I can only assume it is not such a common thing. Can’t seem to find out much about it. Hope you are recovering ok

  • Hi Ladybaba

Sorry to hear you need surgery. I found that my wound took longer to heal than a stitched wound and produced a lot of scar tissue.
