scared and anxious

Hi everyone,

I've just been directed to this group as I'm anxious about something I found yesterday.

I haven't had a diagnosis and I'm not looking for any type of confirmation that I might have cancer.  I just wanted to join here and perhaps manage my anxiety by talking.

Sending everyone here my best wishes and lots of good energy for those of you who do have a diagnosis of any type.

I'll be going to the doctor on Monday first thing but for now I have to get through the weekend without totally worrying myself

  • Hi

It’s fine for you to post in this group, and I hope you’ll find it helps just to share your worries at this point. Many people come to the community to voice their concerns before a diagnosis, so you’re not alone in that. We are here to listen.

You are quite right to see the doctor about your concerns, and they will be able to refer you to see a specialist if they feel that’s necessary for more tests. At the moment, I can tell you are very anxious and full of fear, but hopefully you will be able to control your anxiety over the weekend until you see the doctor.

Can I gently suggest that you don’t turn to dr Google as you wait? You cannot get a diagnosis, but it may well increase your anxiety levels. Have you got any company with you this weekend? I hope you’re not on your own, but if you are could you maybe call a close friend? Watch tv, listen to music, anything that helps you relax and calms your mind.

Please feel welcome to post as much as you want to in the group-there’s always a listening ear here for you. And I very much hope that when you see the doctor there is a less serious explanation for your issue. Take care.

  • Hi Sarah,

Thank you so much for your reply.  You're absolutely right and I won't check things on google any more and get myself worked up.  It's the only reason I've even considered cancer, I jumped straight to that self-diagnosis with no proof.

I'm not alone, I have a partner and two small children so they'll keep me distracted.

Thank you, you've made me feel much better.  Google definitely isn't a doctor and I shouldn't jump to dramatic conclusions.

I'll see the doctor Monday and go from there.

Thank you again, from my heart xx

  • Hi

Dr Google is no doctor so I’m glad you will stay away and rely on the professionals! The internet is full of worst case scenarios so it’s really no help, especially without a diagnosis. I didn’t ever google things and I’m sure I saved myself lots of worry and stress-I just relied on my doctors all the way.

I’m so glad you have family, both to distract you and give you comfort and cuddles! That will be a huge help for you. It’s very natural to be fearful if you find something you’re not expecting, but most of the time it turns out to be less serious than cancer. Our minds can race away with negative thoughts, but try to concentrate on the fact that you’ll be seen and examined quickly and so far you don’t know what’s wrong. Let’s hope there’s a simple explanation.

Look after yourself, and try to keep those negative thoughts at bay. Please let us know how you get on.

  • Hi Sarah,

Just to let you know that I went to a gynecologist yesterday and I've been given a cream for what they hope is an 'ulcer'.

After a week i have to go back and see if it's gone.

I've taken your advice and i'm seeing things more positively.

Thank you so much and I hope that you're well :-)

I'll stay in touch with the results

    xx

  • Hi

Thanks so much for coming back with an update. I’m glad you are feeling better about things, and that this is thought to be an ulcer which can be treated.

I hope the cream does the trick for you, and yes-please let us know how things go. I’m doing fine, thank you for asking.Heart

  • Hi Sarah,

I just wanted to let you know that I've been given the all clear and the cream worked :-)

Thank you for your support in my 'dark time'.  I really was worried and anxious, and now I realise that it wasn't helpful at all.

I wish you good health and happiness and thank you again for making me feel better in a difficult moment.
