Hi, I was diagnosed with Vulval cancer last week, had an immediate CT scan but have to wait until next week for an MRI. I am in total limbo and do not know how I am supposed to be feeling x

  • Hi KKB, I was exactly the same when I was diagnosed in early March after biopsy.  I had a CT scan and was referred to gynaecology team.  Today I came out of hospital having had operation to remove cancer and sentinel node.  It's a huge shock but I eventually accepted it and concentrated on how I was going to beat it.  I have a a Dear friend who went through similar cancer last year and had the same hospital team as me, she accompanied me to my hospital visits as I live alone.  My advice is to trust your gynae team, your specialist cancer nurse is an excellent source of advice and support, eat well and try not to be scared, I manage by trying to live one day at a time.  Also, Lots of support from Vulval cancer support group here, chat to them, they've all been through it too! Sending hugs. Sandy x

  • Thank you so much Sandy, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to me. I wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery xx

  • You're welcome, keep in touch and let me know how you get on.  Face each hurdle as it comes. My next hurd!e is my review in 2 weeks or so with the results of my biopsies from cancer and sentinel node.  In the meantime, I'll relax and try to stay positive.  It's not easy for us cancer sufferers, especially at this time of high covid infections, but the alternative is to give up and we just cannot do thst!  Good luck with your treatment. Hugs xx

  • Thank you and good luck, sending hugs back xx

  • Hi ,

Sandyann has given you some fab advice! The waiting is difficult, but as Sandyann said, do reach out to your specialist nurse if you need to. Self care is really important, so make yourself a priority.

I had my vulval cancer removed just over a year ago, so if you have any questions then I am very happy to help if I am able to.

    Take, care,

    Vulval cancer warrior xx

  • Thank you so much. The waiting is definitely the hardest bit but the nurses have been great so far. A few more days and then hopefully a plan will be in place. I'm very grateful for your offer and hope you are recovering/staying well xx

  • Hi ,

I hope you have a plan in place now or are at least close to having a plan in place.

So far, so good for me. I have recovered physically and am doing much better mentally. Any little sign that it may be back and I go into instant panic, but with time I am finding it easier to calm down and think rationally.

    Best wishes,

    Vulval cancer warrior xx

  • Hi, I'm so pleased that you are doing well and that gives me hope. I had an MRI yesterday and my case is being discussed tomorrow with a plan to be put in place so now it's just waiting. Once I know that I'm hoping to be able to function a little better! Thanks for replying and I hope you stay well and positive xx

  • Hi

I was diagnosed with Vulva cancer in October last year. I had a total vulvectomy in February and a sentinel lymph node biopsy. Unfortunately the cancer has spread into my lymph nodes so I'm currently waiting to have them removed.

If you want to talk or have any questions I'm more than happy to answer them/chat.

    XxX
