Hi all,
Not sure really how to phrase this, but here goes! How do you manage using tampons following vulval surgery?
I had 2 surgeries in 2021 and had to stop using the coil following the cancer diagnosis / surgery. (My cancer is hormones receptive). I've been using pads, but really want to use tampons in the coming weeks for swimming / spa day, however trying a tampon today I have no confidence due to lack of feeling (nerve damage during surgery). Is anyone else going through this?
Thanks
Krazychrissy
Hi Krazzychrissie
I am sorry to hear that you had some nerve damage during your vulval surgery and it has affected your confidence in using tampons. I can understand why you would prefer to use tampons.
Have you got a CNS that you could talk this through with? Your practice nurse may also be able to give advice.
I wonder if it is worth it, to start with to use the tampons at home and with a pad as extra security to find out how often you would need to change it. Also perhaps try at the end of your period when your flow may be lighter and there is less chance of leakage. Maybe also consider more frequent changes to begin with.
Another option would perhaps be to consider those new period pants. They would give some protection if you had some leaking and did not realise. I just had a look online and you can also get period swimwear.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your spa days and swimming.
Jane
