Swollen post treatment

I finished my radiotherapy and chemotherapy back in November (surgery was last July). I'm not due to see the oncologist until March - which seems like a long time to wait, but they assured me it's normal.

I keep getting infections in the area, which I sometimes catch in time and can get to GP for antibiotics and sometimes don't and end up in hospital for a few days - I'm now dealing with my 6th infection since September. When I come off the antibiotics I have about a week before the next infection hits. I don't like it, but again am told it's normal. Do others get regular infections?

On top of this the outside of my vagina is very swollen. I remember being told that swelling is normal, and I've been using the dilator to make sure the hole inside doesn't close up. But is the outside being swollen common? Specifically the top bit - sorry I don't know what it's called - seems to stick out quite a bit. When I was last in hospital in December they said I had healed very well from the radiotherapy and a comment was made about the swelling, but nothing that was alarming or warranted me needing treatment for. Do I just need to wait for the swelling to go down? Is there a timeline for that? TIA

  • Hello

I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered, I can't give you an answer myself as I have a very different cancer, however by me replying your post will be "bumped" back to the top of the forum and seen by other Community members who should be able to answer you.

You may want to pose the question to our specialist nurses and the link for this is below:

    Ask a Nurse

You may need to wait a couple of days for an answer.

    Best wishes - Brian.
