Lichen scherosis

I was diagnosed with lichen scherosis about 6 years ago.

It was managed well with steroid cream until 2017, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Mine was hormone receptive so I'm on a hormone blocker. This has made my lichen scherosis so much worse, itching everyday, tears and sores on my vulval area. I have tried some natural creams but none seem to make a lot of difference.

I wondered if anyone has found anything that helps as the steroid cream just thins the skin and makes it more prone to tearing.

I have just been told by my gynecologist that there is a treatment, not on the NHS, where my blood will be taken, spun and the plasma injected into the area, it costs about £500, I'm thinking about trying it as laser treatment is even more expensive.

  • Hi ,

Unfortunately I am unable to help, but I wanted to comment to bump your post back to the top in hope that someone with experience will see it.

It sounds like a difficult situation to be in and I hope you find something to help soon.

    Take care,

  • Hi steroid treatment is the best treatment for lichen sclerosus and if used correctly doesn’t thin the vulva skin.
Using regular steroids (once or twice a week) will help keep you in remission and help stop progression and also lowers the cancer risk.
google prof Gayle Fisher of the research for this.

also using moisturiser regularly will help.

all other treatments like you mentioned are still experimental.

also a podcast called The Vulva Diaries is good.
