Scar tissue

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice on scar tissue. I have had two WLE’s on my vulva last year- specifically on the bottom part at my perineum and while my oncologist does not see any reoccurrence this time, I am concerned about the scar tissue at the entrance of my vagina. Intercourse can be painful in certain positions and even getting a Pap smear I need to ask for the smaller speculum because the scar tissue narrows the entrance.
The doctor recommended I massage this with Vaseline type ointment every day but I just find it so awkward to get into this area so I was hoping if anyone out there had the same problem how they resolved it/if they resolved it/have they seen any improvement? Concerned I will have this scar tissue for life and only being 32 it does worry me for the future.

thanks all!

  • Hi ,

I have had 2 WLE in the same area. I am not sexually active and haven’t had a smear test since my surgery, so I don’t have any experience from that perspective. However I was told after my first surgery that the entrance to my vaging may be too tight and I was advised that if it became a problem I could have further surgery to rectify it.  Every person and consultant are different, but I wonder whether this would be an option for you if it continues to be a problem. In the meantime  you could speak to a pharmacist and see if they could recommend a suitable emollient. My dermatologist advised that I used emollient whilst in the shower and I feel that it helps a little with the ‘tight’ feeling.

I hope you find a solution!
