Hi Everyone.

The 1st - 7th June is Volunteers week. This is my first time celebrating volunteers week, as I have only been a champ for 6 months,

I joined the Macmillan community 7 years ago, when I was diagnosed with lung cancer. I was in a panic, and I spoke to a couple of people who very much put my mind at ease. I then dipped in and out of the community for a couple of years.  With my cancer being endometrial sarcoma with Met's to my lungs, I struggled to find where I fitted in the community. I am a member of the womb group, but I haven't had womb cancer for 12 years. My cancer medication is the same as many breast cancer patients, so I found I could talk about my treatment there. Then I found an amazing bunch of friends in the lung group., and I have been here now for about 4 years. When I was asked to become a champ, I was honoured, and for me it came along right at right time. Like most of us, I had been shielding for months. I stopped working 2 years before, and I was feeling low, without a purpose. I am a wife, and mother, but cancer has knocked my confidence.

Becoming a champ, I have met some wonderful people. I never realised just how big our community was until I became a champ. I am sure there are still corners of the community I still haven't visited.  I started champing the Vulva group recently, but I think the group would really benefit from someone with experience of vulva cancer.

You can read more about being a champ in the community blog here:

If anyone would like more information on becoming a champ, please feel free to message me.
