Hi I have been diagnosed with Vulva cancer, and am currently having radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I am on week 2 of 5 weeks. So far 10 sessions of radiotherapy and 2 of chemotherapy.  I am using QV cream to moisturiser. Though someone said try tropic Tamanu healing balm.  Has anyone used this cream.  I am sore and I have been told I could get much sorer I am hoping not.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear how sore you're feeling and I do hope that you can find something to soothe your skin.

I don't have any experience to draw on for you but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered. I typed 'Tropic Tamanu Healing Balm' into the search bar in this group but it didn't bring up any previous posts mentioning this.

I assume that you have spoken to your CNS to get her advice on what moisturiser to use but you could also post your question in ask a nurse and one of the specialist cancer nurses will aim to respond within 2 working days.

When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi

I had surgery rather than radiotherapy but my surgeon recommended Medihoney when my wound was sore. I’ve seen posts on other forums where people also recommend it for radiotherapy after-effects. It was soothing but it’s very thick so I found it quite difficult to apply, but it might be worth trying.

Sorry you’re going through this x

Hello thank you for your reply. Will look out for mediwhoney.  The skin nurse recommended granula gel and instils gel which are think. It is just sore down their they also gave me dressings.

  • Hello

I haven’t been on the website for a while and so have only just read your message.

I also had chemo and radiotherapy over 5 weeks - this was after surgery.

I found the best thing for me was Flamazine cream - got through loads of the stuff but it did help. Also lying in front of a cool fan 2 or 3 times a day was helpful.

It is miserable but have to say that that about a week after treatment finished things began to heal quickly - more quickly than I expected.

Hang in there - it will get better.

    Best wishes
