Ive just been diagnosed with recurrence of breast cancer tnbc regional recurrence. First diagnosis in Nov 23 was very early and not in nodes. Surgery, Chemo and radiotherapy. Now In lymph nodes and moving but CT seems clear. Waiting for PET scan to confirm it’s regional. Am so frightened. Young family. Struggling to process. I feel like it’s eating me alive and determined to take me away from my beautiful children. Has anyone been in a similar position?
In a dark place…
Hi Una26
I am so sorry you are here, but I hope I can offer some hope. I had early stage TNBC in 2022 with no lymph node involvement and a secondary lesion was found in my liver before I finished primary treatment. That was picked up on a CT scan done for other reasons and I went on to have a PET-CT. So mine was not a recurrence but probably de novo metastatic with spread through blood not lymph. Initially I assumed the worst as googling stats for stage 4 TNBC doesn’t produce happy reading. But here I am. I have been in remission since late 2023 and not on any treatment since the clean up liver ablation I had in early 2024.
So please don’t assume the worst even if your PET scan finds more problems.

Thank you so much for replying.
that does help actually. Im in a slightly better place today. My PeT scan is booked for Saturday morning so less that 48 hours away.
I am going to meet this head on and fight it. I am reading up on immunotherapy and it’s a positive read.
Tjank you for sharing your experience

Hi Una26
I was treated with immunotherapy (pembrolizumab). Your tumour needs to have a certain amount of PD-L1 protein for the treatment to be offered. It worked well for me albeit with some complications.
