Hi, I was diagnosed with Grade 1 TNBC and had one Lymph node that tested positive.
I am more than half way through chemotherapy and I am also having immunotherapy. I have been told that I can have a lumpectomy and a number of lymph nodes removed or opt for a mastectomy.
Since my diagnosis my Mum checked more frequently and she unfortunately found a lump and has now also been diagnosed with TNBC and she is undergoing treatment.
I had the genetic testing which came back negative.
I would like to know if any other people on this group have been diagnosed with TNBC and have a close relative (mother/daughter) who has also been diagnosed with TNBC too and the genetic test was negative?
My worry is that we could have a gene not yet detected and therefore I would be making the wrong decision not to have a mastectomy?
If anyone has been in a similar position please can you let me know what you decided to have (mastectomy or lumpectomy) and why you made that choice? Thanks
Hi SaraW
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that both yourself and your mum have been diagnosed with triple negative. While I haven't the experience you are looking for I noticed that you haven't had any replies yet so I thought I reply to you anyway to welcome you to the community. I suggest that you also join the breast cancer group and ask your question there as well as it's a much busier forum than this one. There are plenty of ladies with triple on that forum as well.
Wishing you and your mum the best of luck with your treatments.
Best wishes

Hi, I’m just joining today November 2024.I can say that I have triple negative cancer, as of sept2024. My mom had breast cancer, but she doesn’t remember what type of breast cancer it was but she had a mastectomy on one breast in her 40’s (80y) I have it on one with the lump that you can feel under my arm when you slide your hand up and down, so it’s not within the breast And I was thinking about doing a lumpectomy as well. They started me with chemo, which this is my fifth one so far my experience I lost Hair on third chemo. I had two heart palpitations now and I’m experiencing tingling in my fingers. No one knows exactly whether the cancer will come back on the other breast or anywhere within your body. The decision really would be up to you. Some people do both just so they won’t have to deal with it later.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
