I finished 5 and a half months of chemo over a week ago . Had my bad days but managed to cope with it mentally.  I still have radiotherapy and an operation to go but I find myself the last week being more teary  and upset than ever . I've  thankfully had good news that the tumour is shrinking yet I still feel the most sad since it all began. Is it normal to feel like this at this stage because I feel.as though I'm going mad .nothing makes me happy no more and I cant pinpoint why . I suppose I kust want to feel like me again. Sorry to be doom and gloom just wanted to know if anyone else feels like this after chemo ? X

  • Sorry you are feeling like this. You have been through a lot, and in some ways it’s easier to deal with the rounds of treatment than the what happens next. I don’t think it’s unusual and hopefully it won’t stay like this for long. The usual advice of making plans to do things you enjoy probably applies. All the best

  • Hi Star

Sorry to hear that you struggling at the moment.  Would you consider ringing the helpline and speaking to someone about how you are feeling at the moment?  Their number is 0808 808 00 00.  The support line is open from 8 am to 8 pm seven days a week.  You can also chat online to a volunteer.  Here's the link for the chat: https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/get-help/emotional-help/chat-online.

No need to apologise for how you are feeling it's a normal reaction after having treatment.  The wait for the next stage of treatment can be hard particularly as you have a bit of a wait for surgery after chemo ends.  I thought I'd be delighted when I finished chemo but on my last day walking out of the chemo ward I felt a bit lost.

Wishing you the best of luck with your surgery and radiotherapy.
