Advice please

Good afternoon,

I have now had 3 rounds of chemo for TNBC, I still have at least 5 to go and then surgery, then radiotherapy, since finding an initial lump they have now found 4 other areas, in the same breast,  it is unlikely that I can have a lumpectomy, so probably looking at a mastectomy. I am looking for advice with regards to:

1. Having an implant or surgery using tissue from my own body

2. If only 1 breast is involved are there any pros/cons to choosing to have a double mastectomy

Any advice/recommendations welcome.

Thank you

  • Hello Emma G,

I will do my best to try and help you as my wife found herself in your situation.

After having her right breast removed and due to family history she decided to have her left removed as well.

We had to see a doctor who checked that my wife was in the right frame of mind and that it would be done for the right reason.

The approval was given and the operation went ahead, this was with the idea to extend life expectancy.

After the operation when things had settled talk moved to the possibility of a double reconstruction, we were told this would be a long

    operation with considerable risk.

After considering all the options my wife decided to stay as she was, I fell in love with the person not her boobs if anyone did not like the

way she was they could do one.

If you have a partner or very close friend they may be able to help also a specialist breast care nurse is a good port of call.

I hope this little bit of advise helps you.

    Try and stay strong.

    John
