Hi there,
Has anyone looked into TN and diet?
Thank you
Himalaya
Hi Himalaya
l have been looking into diets and recently found low asparagine and low methionine diets (what new words we learn)!! On first glance looks like vegan basically. I’ve already changed my diet to a much healthier one by cutting out choc and wine and cutting down on dairy (all the things I really enjoyed but now not missing too much) and increasing fruit and veg but one of the diets (can’t remember which) states fructose to be avoided and I think one says nuts good and the other says bad! Don’t know if I can go vegan and give up fruit and nuts too! After my diagnosis I lost my appetite with the shock so it was a good time to change because I already had stopped craving the things I used to love.
There is some evidence for these diets on line but haven’t looked into it much yet. I am doing the 16 hour fast though which isn’t too difficult at all and seems to have some positive articles on line and science behind it but not been trialled I don’t think. I’d be interested to hear if there’s anything you’ve heard about TNBC and diet too.
Best wishes x
Hi Wobbly1,
Thanks for the reply.
Ive been looking at methionine too.....goes against a lot of food I eat! Tuna, turkey, Brazil nuts boohoo.
Im going to ask my onco when I see her next, because I don’t want to rule out any important nutrients either. Am happy to eat less meat though and generally eat more plant based food
Interesting isn’t it? Keep in touch if you find anything.....

Hi I started the fasting as at first I was thought to have low positive ER and hormone blocking drugs wouldn’t work for me so was looking into ways to reduce and block oestrogen naturally and came across fasting then. Just carried it on when diagnosed TNBC as wanted to lose weight and be in best shape I could be to fight this bloody cancer. I have read a couple of articles on line which mentions fasting and TNBC though but may just be clutching at straws. I am eating very healthily in the 8 hours remaining, it’s almost as if I darent have the odd glass of wine or dessert these days which is a bit bonkers! I’d be interested to know what your oncologist says about low methionine diet though. Hope you are doing well. I should be starting chemo in December x
My oncologist says it holds no credence so I compromised I am vegan but occasionally eat a free range chicken(you need the protein which you can’t get from nuts as you shouldn’t have the )
if I fancy something sweet i fast that day and treat myself as for alcohol one gin and tonic a month and white wine if I go out

Thanks for the reply. I guess the only thing I feel I can control at the mo is diet and exercise. I agree about being as healthy as you can….difficult though when you’re a comfort eater! I lost a load of weight on diagnosis but it is creeping back up.
wobby1…all the best with chemo. I start my 2nd round this Friday
Dc6…..how are you getting on at the mo?
keep in touch
Himalaya
Hi thanks for your reply I hope you are doing well. It’s hard keeping the diet healthy day in day out but as Himalaya says it’s the only thing we can control apart from exercise. Can I just ask where you get your day to day protein when vegan? I’m thinking quorn and tofu might play a big part though I’ve tried neither. Also you mentioned nuts but didn’t get rest of sentence.
Best wishes
