Hi I am er/pr negative and awaiting HER results, though it seems this is more often negative.
I had my lumpectomy on Thursday and am awaiting my next meeting to find out next steps
Does chemo always follow a triple negative diagnosis?
I am a single mother of 6 year old twins and have no idea how I'll be able to look after them plus go through chemo....
Thank you x
Hi. Yes the majority of people with triple negative have chemo because it can either shrink cancer pre surgery or help prevent recurrence after surgery. I had a lumpectomy and no node involvement and was given a choice about chemo but have chosen to go ahead because it reduces future risk. You would definately need extra support with young children, but not everyone has terrible side effects. I hope the rest of your treatment goes well xx
Thank you for your reply indigo . I had 2 small tumours 6mm and 4mm (well I guess that will be confirmed in the next couple of weeks) so chemo would be to stop recurrence. They give you Choice?? That's scary.
How long is / was your chemo for?
Hi Merlin - I have just finished treatment after diagnosis of a TN cancer in October last year. I had six months chemo and it is generally doable if you can rest and make sure you eat well and drink lots of water! There are drugs for pretty much all side effects. There is a really good Facebook group for people with a triple negative diagnosis - lots of ladies and loads of advice and support so it is worth looking at that. Good luck with your treatment!
Thank you indigo we sound very similar diagnosis. Its worth having it if it prevents further cancer.... x
Thank you Cloud I will look out for that. I just worry about looking after kiddies and the fact they so excited about our week in isle of wight in 3 months.... doubt we could go?
I'm glad you have got through to the other side xx
Hello, I don't think there is much choice about the chemo I have also just been diagnosed with a triple negative breast cancer downgraded from a 3 to a 2. I've had my op and recovering well. I'm having a real dilemma about whether to go ahead with the chemo or not. Its been quite difficult to get answers to questions and I have been referred to the Consent clinic in two weeks time. I just feel like I'm on a cancer conveyer belt with little say in what is gong to happen to me. So I am trying one more time and have emailed the breast cancer nurses with a list of questions so that I can try to make an informed decision whether to go ahead or not. It is so stressful as doubt has crept it and I'm now questioning whether going through the horrors of chemo is actually worth it. I wish you all the best with your treatment . Good Luck xx
Hi BronteMaggs
While I won’t say chemo is easy it is doable and is definitely worth it to make sure you get better and to help prevent recurrence. You will receive a lot of support from your specialist nurses and they do everything they can to make sure that chemo isn’t to hard on your system.
Wishing you the best of luck whatever you decide to do.
Best wishes and take care.
