I was diagnosed with triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma two years ago (I'm now 60). It was treated with chemo, mastectomy and radiotherapy. After my treatment finished I didn't have any follow up other than one call with a consultant (that I instigated) where I was told the only follow up would be a mammogram in two years. I've now found new lumps in my remaining breast and have a mammogram next week to investigate and am so scared that it has come back again. Strangely I was never scared the first time, I just took for granted it would be sorted after treatment but I guess it's the implications this time that are so scary. Has anyone else had reoccurence within such a short time? And can you have the same treatment again? I would really love to hear other people's experiences; I know we're all different but it still helps!
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you have recently found new lumps in your breast and it's completely natural to fear that your breast cancer has recurred.
I don't have the experience you're looking for but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Replying to you will 'bump' the post back to the top of the discussions list.
You might also like to join and post in the main breast cancer group and clicking on the link I've created will take you there if this is something you'd like to do.
While you're waiting for replies if you type 'recurrence' into the group's search bar you'll find previous posts from people whose breast cancer recurred. You could have a read through the more recent ones and reply to any of the posters if you think they can help you further.
When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Do come back and let us know how you get on when you go for your mammogram next week.
x
