New TNBC Diagnosis

Hi all

I was diagnosed with BC on 5th January and it was confirmed this week that I'm triple negative - I lost my sister-in-law to TNBC 2 years ago, so I'm pretty freaked about the diagnosis. I've also asked for gene testing as I have 3 daughters.

They've told me it's Grade 1 which I'm assuming is really good and they've suggested a MX with LD Flap reconstruction and radiotherapy. There is a possibility that I won't have chemo which seems weird for TNBC - I thought it was supposed to respond really well to chemo. I'm a bit worried about the LD flap as I'm quite active and I've read it can have long term effects on the affected side.

Has anyone had a good experience with an LD flap?

  • I was diagnosed with TNBC on 9th December. Grade 3 with no metastasis or lymph nodes involvement. If your tumor size is small, you will be offered surgery first. Then may be followed by chemotherapy. Ask this question you your breast surgeon. I am undergoing chemotherapy first because of my tumor size.  Had my first dose yesterday. It is not something you look forward to having as it is really tough. I m sorry to hear about your sister in law.

All the very best for future treatment and hope you recover fully. Lots of prayers.

  • Hi TNBC50. Thanks for your reply. I have two lumps about 5cms apart - she said that were synchronous. I was surprised by the grade, I assumed all TNBC was grade 3. I am Stage 1 as well as Grade 1 so hopefully just found the first lump very quickly. There are no physical changes to my breast - it looks completely normal, no dimples or anything but it was painful, hence the check.  I had a biopsy on a lymph node and that's come back okay so I'm DCIS. As far as I know it will be the MX first followed by radiotherapy and then chemo if necessary.
