I was not expecting this to hurt. I haven’t heard that it does. The throat swab was ok but then the nurse shoved it up my nose causing excruciating pain. I reacted noisily in anguish. She then thought she would try the other nostril- with the same result. 5 hours later I can still feel where these probes went. Apparently they have a little brush on the end.Not like the painless mrsa swabs  which I was handed to do myself. I was not warned it would hurt just that my eyes might water. Was this unusual? The nurse came out to my car to do the test so maybe her angle of sticking it in was wrong? Anyway it’s over!

  • Hi Vibraphone I don't know a lot about this except what those who have had the test have said and it is the same as you and was painful and uncomfortable.

    Best Wishes for clear swabs.

I had to have my swab done three times before my surgery last month as they lost two results !  The first one was bearable, the second one was really painful like you described and the third one was fine. All different nurses so  I guess it depends on who you get but I had the same feeling as you, it didn't need to be quite so brutal !  I'm glad it's all over for you !
