First session of chemotherapy

Hello everyone,

My latest news

I had my first injection EC on Friday and had the worst Friday night and Saturday ever. Nausea, stomac ache were my friend. I believe the anti sickness tablets did their job but the feeling was omnipresent. Drinking wise for sure I couldn't drink two littres; eating impossible but I forced myself I could swallow half of a banana, four pastas, a table spoon of rice and two pieces of pineaple.

Day 2. what to really expect?

I kept repeating to myself why did I accept this treatment, knowing perfectly the reason but it was my way to deal with the pain.

Each body reacts differently to the treament fortunately. I hope the second session will be more gentle with me.

Take care and stay safe.

Sandra

    Hi sandra

im sorry to hear you had such a horrid couple days post treatment-you’re right it does affect us all differently and for me (chemo finished feb and radio April)days 3-7 were worst but having to have steroids pre treatment due to bad reaction as soon as first one started I think they kept my body on the go for a couple of days after- the omnipresent nausea is beyond imagination until you have it-every breath seems to exacerbate it but the meds did stop me actually vomiting - well done for eating what you did:-)

i too could not manage to drink the 2L and paid the price by getting dehydrated and a UTI and within 48 hrs was in acute services on a drip so my only advice to you is to find some way of just taking tiny sips through a straw from a small glass with a small amount in itso you don’t feel overwhelmed and sucking kiddies small lollies - it's easier said than done I know and I failed to drink enough on more than one other occasion and got mouth ulcers and my lower lip actually split open from dryness and the UTI caused me to wet myself so I had to do something

chemo won’t be kinder but you will be more prepared(and more scared) and if you do nothing but sip continuously something that doesn’t smell bad to you(hard water stinks of metal when on chemo even with squash in it) so bottle or filter hot/cold anything you will feel better more quickly

    take care

My pleasure -sorry if I seemed a bit “bossy” but I absolutely felt what you were saying and as a veterinary surgeon I’m used to being open and sometimes over explaining - if there’s anything else plUnicornse message meUnicorn

Thankyou for reassuring me that I hadn’t overstepped- a few salted peanuts at bedtime made me thirsty so I had to drink-just avoid them touching your lips as the salt will sting

    take care

    Hiya

Sorry i've only just seen your post, i had FEC chemo which is the same as EC but you're having one less drug than i had.

I felt very much the same as you when i had my first treatment, in fact i can remember the Sunday after it crying and thinking i'm not going to be able to do this. I found that this happened every Sunday after every treatment and i renamed it Meltdown Sunday lol

Anyway what i wanted to share with you was that i can only explain it as week one after treatment poopy, week 2 not as poopy and week 3 nearly back normal ready for the next round. As my treatments went on i found the best way to do things and you're doing it right, eating little but often even if you don't want anything. I lived on chicken soup and cheesy garlic bread.

Hope you're feeling a bit better by now and the SE are easing off.

The chemo you're having is good stuff, i started with a 6cm tumor and after my chemo the tumor could not be seen on an MRI it had shrunk so much xxx

    Best wishes xxx

  • Hello the ScriptFan!

    Thank you for the wishes.

I have not been very polite with this treatment, I've been very rude Joy

This morning I thought I was ok...bowel issues and sore throat.

A bit scared about the latter due to the pandemic; temperature fine though and my head is somewherebut not with me.

    Wait and see!

    Take care x

you be a rude as you like, its the prerogative of having cancer because you can just blame treatment lol

Hope tomorrow is a better day and your head finds its way back to you.
