Hi everyone.
I had successful treatment for a triple negative tumour in my right breast in 2018-2019 including chemo, mastectomy and radiotherapy. I am BRAC1 and at some point this year I will be having a left breast prophylactic mastectomy together with reconstruction for both sides. My surgeon says I am no candidate for tissue reconstruction so I'll have to have implants. I'd like to know if anyone here has had a similar reconstruction and what was it like for you. I am particularly interested in knowing about your calendars after the surgery so that I can plan my family and work commitments around hospital appointments. How long did you stay in hospital for your surgery? After surgery, how many times did you have to go back to hospital to expand implants and for how long?
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I can't help with your questions, not having had this type of cancer myself, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any responses yet.
It would be a good idea to also post this in the main breast cancer group as it's far more active than this one so you're more likely to get a reply.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi, Ada1973
Congratulations on your successful treatment. I'm from Canada so, perhaps techniques and times are a bit different here. I had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy. This was performed 3 months after completion of chemo. I had saline implants and skin donation (from a cadaver, not from my own body parts) which were performed at the same time as the mastectomy. Total surgery time was about 3 hours, with two surgeons working simultaneously - the surgical oncologist and the reconstructive surgeon. I spent only one night in hospital and had drains in place for two weeks. Pain was minimal and well-controlled by medication.
Good luck with your procedure.
